About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a Lecturer in Research for a dynamic role that balances teaching and research responsibilities. This position is ideal for candidates from diverse health-related backgrounds.

Teaching Responsibilities:
In this role, you will oversee the research component of the MD Program and provide research support to medical students within the Darling Downs-South West Medical Pathway (DDSWMP) at the Toowoomba Regional Clinical Unit (RCU).

Research Responsibilities:
You will lead and contribute to research projects aligned with the priority research areas of the Rural Clinical School. Your work will play a key role in advancing the research objectives of the Rural Clinical School.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Teaching (40%): Provide high quality research teaching and support for medical students at the Toowoomba RCU.

  • Work closely with the Academy for Medical Education in developing and reviewing the MD Program’s research curriculum.

  • Research (40%): Maintain personal academic standing, including the pursuit of research and scholarship.

  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Communication of research opportunities for students as part of their curriculum and extra-curricular research.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You 

  • Bachelor’s degree and PhD, preferably in a health-related discipline.

  • Experience in undertaking or facilitating research, including progression of research publishing, translation and impact.

  • Demonstrate design of effective learning materials in research (methods) education.

  • Demonstrated research-relevant knowledge and skills with expertise in a wide range of specialist and general research techniques, including qualitative data analysis methods.

  • Developing track record of contribution to the supervision of students in research, including enrolled HDR candidates.

  • High level communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, colleagues and the wider community.

  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.

  • A commitment to and an understanding of the issues surrounding, living and working in a rural and/or regional area.

  • A growing profile in research discipline that is transferable to rural health, including contribution to successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
