Weston Hospital’s Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) provides care to various surgical patient populations. As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing a high level of customer service to patients, families, visitors, and other caregivers to promote and support positive patient experiences. Health Unit Coordinators perform general secretarial and clerical duties, such as preparing and placing charts, stamping documents, gathering and organizing data, completing physician orders and answering call lights.
A caregiver in this position works 7:00am--7:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
1 year of experience in a customer service-related role.
Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
College degree.
Microsoft Office experience.

Physical Requirements:
Requires frequent walking from department to department; requires sitting at a workstation or desk; requires standing; work may include occasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs., such as files, documents and computer printouts.
Work requires finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department directors, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem-solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
Special Demands: Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, directing staff and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities.
Self-starting and self-motivating; working hours may exceed eight (8) hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand.
