Job Description

Peterson Cat has a need for a Utility Worker at our Eugene, OR location.

SUMMARY

The is responsible to clean machines, organize equipment and components in yard, and perform light maintenance to machines and components used in heavy equipment industry.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.   • Clean machines and components as needed to prepare equipment for delivery.
  • Operate heavy equipment to and from Service Departments and display areas.
  • Organize Store Front and parking lots with equipment and ensure the cleanliness of each area.
  • Load / Unload heavy equipment and attachments from trucks.
  • Maintain records and or bill of ladings.
  • Complete service reports, timecards, and other related paperwork.
  • Safely operate lift trucks, overhead cranes, hoists, power tools and other shop equipment in a safe manner.
  • Organize work tools for sales department.
  • Keep yard and work areas clean and organized throughout day to ensure safe work environment.
  • Attend scheduled training classes and profit center meetings as scheduled.
  • Wear safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, company provided overalls, and other related safety gear in all designated company and customer work areas.  
  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.  
  • Operate company or personal vehicle as needed.

Based on location the following duties may or may not apply.

  • Receive, track and record machines and attachments in the yard for Inventory purposes.
  • Tag and scan machines and attachments with iMetrix and verify machine and attachment serial numbers for DBS receiving.
  • Perform shipping/receiving functions, inspect cargo for damage, and follow outlined shipping/receiving policies and procedures. Maintain records for bill of ladings.
  • Code freight bills and forward for processing.
  • Install attachments to machines as needed for sale or demonstration.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance services on rental fleet and other equipment and vehicles.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to deliver parts to field technicians, and to pick run various errands required by supervisor.

Based on Business Unit the following duties may or may not apply.

  • Responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of multiple shops, offices, perimeter of building and shop aprons; empty trash cans, dispose of used oil filters and garbage, clean and refill mop buckets, etc.
  • Assist with shop cleanliness above what technicians are required to do.
  • Maintain shop equipment clean, in good working order and well maintained.
  • Assist with moving disabled vehicles in and out of shop.
  • Drive a company vehicle to pick up and deliver components to vendors and customers.
  • Pickup and delivery of vehicles (depending upon type of license).
  • Keep steam bay clean and organized.
  • Perform monthly safety inspections in Main shop, Body Shop and Warehouse.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work evening and weekend overtime is required, as necessary.

JOB SCOPE

This position serves in the capacity of the Utilityperson. General discretion and judgment are exercised routinely in the execution of job duties. If errors in judgment or professional execution of responsibilities are made, the consequences to the Department can be significant.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

Internal contacts consist of levels of positions in the company from business unit leaders to entry level positions. This position regularly deals with employees and customers in exchange of information in person, writing, via telephone or by electronic transfer. Sensitivity is required in dealing with such information and decisions concerning the release or sharing of that information. External contacts consist of customers, visitors and vendors.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school education or the equivalent; and a minimum of one year of experience as yard person or other utility worker position. Experience in the safe operation of heavy and other miscellaneous equipment. Experience operating a steam cleaning machine preferred. Basic knowledge of mechanical work preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Lift truck certificate preferred.
  • Depending on business unit, may need to maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position. Days and hours worked will mirror the business operations which typically runs Monday – Friday. May work more than eight consecutive hours at a time or more than 40 hours in a seven-day work period depending on work demands. Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary. Travel will be required to branch locations, company events, professional development and industry conferences. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, have access to reliable transportation and must be able to travel via most efficient mode for work related travel i.e., airplane.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The primary physical demands of this job are prolonged periods of standing/walking, working in awkward positions, and occasional heavy lifting involved from floor to waist. Requires good grip strength, dexterity, good vision and working around hot parts, tool and chemical hazards. Works on slippery surfaces. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include, close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth and perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works in shop and outdoor environments, working in all types of weather conditions. Employee is regularly exposure to heat, wet or humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, working in high precarious places, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and exposed to vibration. Employee is expected to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in all work areas where it is required.
