The Semiconductor Business Unit provides solutions for customers in pathfinding, yield learning, and failure analysis of semiconductor processes and manufacturing. How will you make an impact?
The Applications Development Engineer TEM - Semiconductor is based in the software R&D group and serves as the subject matter expert for TEM Semiconductor use cases, workflows, and applications. In this role, you will translate customer needs into clear software requirements and solution guidance, helping software teams implement the right capabilities for customers. You will act as a bridge between end customers and development teams, working closely with the Applications Development (Apps Dev) team and Semi ART leadership team as key stakeholders.
What will you do?
Act as the subject matter expert within the software R&D group for TEM Semiconductor use cases, workflows, and applications.
Translate end-customer needs, application workflows, and field feedback into actionable requirements and solution guidance for software teams.
Partner with the Applications Development (Apps Dev) team and Semi ART leadership team to align priorities, validate proposed solutions, and support customer-focused execution.
Share and build TEM and semiconductor domain knowledge within the software R&D and cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with both Systems and Software groups to ensure system requirements are well understood, developed, integrated, and thoroughly tested.
Cultivate positive customer relationships and act as a high-level customer interface for specific instrument and application issues, explaining complex technology details, giving in-depth technical presentations, and assisting in application development.
Provide continuous feedback to product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating closely with marketing and development groups on future product developments.
Recommend and advise on potential application directions consistent with customer requirements and technical feasibility.
Troubleshoot and report software and hardware issues, escalating as necessary.
Perform high-quality TEM product demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for Thermo Fisher partners and customers, particularly those in the semiconductor marketplace.
Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions.
How will you get here?
Education
Typically requires a university degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
Experience
Knowledge and recent hands-on experience with TEM is required.
4+ years of experience in a relevant position within a research environment, with recent experience utilizing TEM technology.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of advanced technology diagnostics, troubleshooting techniques, operational optimization, and analytical equipment, specifically electron and ion microscopes.
Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Excellent, enthusiastic, and clear written and verbal communication skills with diverse audiences are critical to the success of this position.
Must have professional working proficiency in English; Dutch language skills are beneficial.
Excellent customer-facing skills are required.
Proven ability to interact with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
Ability to write scientific papers and other publications.
Ability to travel internationally (up to 25%) and obtain a valid passport.
