Within the Leidos Defense Group, the IAS Division develops aircraft-based solutions and provides operational mission expertise to perform world-wide deployments in support of our US Military customers and foreign partners. Since 9/11 Leidos has been a leader in quick reaction capability (QRC) deployments of advanced mission equipment packages (MEP) including communications, SIGINT, full-motion video, and radar sensor suites and support infrastructure to provide actionable intelligence. Over 100 aircraft have been delivered to date, and our airborne operations provide critical ISR to support our customers’ missions in EUCOM, AFRICOM, CENTCOM, INDOPACOM, and SOUTHCOM.
The Defense Group, IAS Division currently has a dynamic job opportunity for a Director of Engineering, located in Bridgewater, VA.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight of the design and integration of AISR capabilities into commercial derivative aircraft. You will serve as the primary external customer technical lead and interface to senior/executive management.
The Director of Engineering, uses disciplined development approaches to design, deliver and sustain aircraft baselines and revisions. As a technical leader of a multi-discipline team, you will develop and update program hardware, software and processes; manage IPT and subcontractor development efforts; integrate new/updated COTS/GOTS into the baseline; support Engineering Change Proposals; perform system checkout and support the Test & Evaluation team throughout contractor testing and system fielding. You will participate in the full lifecycle of the program assisting the Program Management Team and IPT Leads on the program to ensure the on-time delivery of engineering efforts that meet program performance requirements.

THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)
Lead the engineering team in the design, integration; COTS, GOTS, and Leidos Developed
Lead design and development of AISR capabilities into commercial derivative aircraft for deployment to multiple locations
Develop system release schedules which meet program objectives and present those schedules to leadership and the customer
Effectively lead a geographically dispersed multi-discipline team to achieve the program schedule and all deliverable requirements
Coordinate with managers, leads, IPT and subcontractor teams to effectively build and deploy new system baselines and revisions
Interface with Government customers, support contractors, and teammates
Plan, manage, and enforce hardware, software, and process baseline standards
Create and maintain documentation associated with support activities
Provide support metrics and reporting to leadership
Maintain performance of subsystem, as systems are tested and checkouts completed
Troubleshoot to isolate system faults and develop repairs
Assist leadership with planning schedules and ensure proper personnel coverage for support activities
Manage and deploy annual and out of cycle baseline updates
Develop engineering design plans to meet all system requirements
Develop and maintain engineering documentation and diagrams
WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or STEM field with a minimum of 8 years of related work experience, or a Masters with a minimum of 6 years of related work experience
Mission Equipment Payload (MEP) systems integration experience in manned or unmanned ISR fixed-wing aircraft to include outer mold line modifications (8 years minimum).
Work experience with aircraft manufacturing, modification, and/or repair station operations
Familiarity with FAA and DOD Commercial Derivative Aircraft (CDA) Programs and Airworthiness Policies
Technical leadership experience (8 years minimum) leading a medium-to-large program supporting design, development, integration, and testing of a complex, multi-component ISR system into manned or unmanned fixed-wing aircraft.
Ability to mentor and lead a large technical team.
Possess strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
Security Clearance Requirement
Must have ACTIVE DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Travel Requirement
A minimum of 25% travel may be required to support activities at other duty locations as well as CONUS test ranges.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineering experience with Bombardier 650, 6500 jets, DCH-8, Beechcraft King Air 200 & 300
Airborne ISR system operational experience
Experience with the management of ISR system development, testing, operations, and sustainment.
Experience providing technical leadership of proposals for medium sized efforts ($50M).
Familiarity and experience with Open, Agile, and Digital development methodologies
Experience with lifecycle development of large system integration programs following DoD standards, experience with relevant quality control standards such as AS9100.
Experience with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) and Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) compliant ISR systems
