Join athenahealth as an Associate Software Engineer, where you will design and develop software solutions within an agile team environment. You will contribute to building impactful technology that supports healthcare revenue cycle management.

Team Summary

In athenaCollector, we build technology solutions that automate Revenue Cycle Management (RCM). This Collector team implements the underlying medical back-office processes to automate and integrate the unique claims cycle requirements. The athenaCollector product is a critical component of the athenaOne platform, which helps medical provider clients manage their business and revenue cycle operations. It automates claims and billing for well over $200 billion in client revenue annually. This team focuses on delivering features and tools that minimize cash flow delays and operational costs, increase scalability, and help clients maximize the value they receive from athenaOne.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Design and develop code collaboratively on an Agile team consisting of Engineers, a Scrum Master, a Product Owner, and an Experience Designer.

  • Collaborate inclusively with cross-functional team members to enhance productivity and effectiveness.

  • Take ownership of your work and coordinate efforts across teams to ensure objectives are met.

  • Develop domain knowledge to act as a subject matter expert.

  • Share business and technical insights with the broader engineering and product organization.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Engage in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of software defects and performance issues.

  • Assist in documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.

  • Gain familiarity with healthcare integration standards such as HL7 protocols.

  • Contribute to testing efforts including unit and integration testing.

  • Participate in learning initiatives and team knowledge exchanges.

  • Support version control and CI/CD pipeline activities.

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to healthcare software.

Expected Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a developer role within a product development environment.

  • Knowledge of programming languages including Python or Java.

  • Exposure to object-oriented programming and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.

  • Proficiency with version control systems such as Git and Bitbucket.

  • Basic understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and DevSecOps principles.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies is preferred.

  • Exposure to HL7 protocols or healthcare integration is a plus.

 

Expected Compensation

$90,000 - $154,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
