The pay range is $126,600.00 - $227,900.00

The Sr. Engineering Manager (SEM) is responsible for managing a team of engineers that is building and implementing innovative and cutting-edge technology solutions. This role is accountable for leading an engineering team collecting engineering data insights about the software systems, developing, and deploying code as well as managing systems in production environment. The SEM leads teams to fulfill the enterprise roadmaps by delivering scalable, secure, innovative, and intelligent systems. They will be called upon to be the technical representative for their team during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning. Success in this role will require strong and innovative approaches to problem solving, strong technical leadership, excellent communication (written and verbal, formal and informal), flexibility, accountability, and a self-motivated working style with attention to detail.

The current systems provide an interconnected view of the data that enables teams and leaders to discover high-level patterns, decide on best practices, and address deficiencies.

The SEM will work across product teams to implement solutions and influence engineering approach, understand, and describe the technical ecosystem in their area of responsibility and how it impacts business capabilities. They will drive outcomes, remove obstacles, ensure commitment to timelines, and manage to an established budget, ensuring teams meet/exceed operations goals around stability and security for their products and compliance.

The SEM will coach, develop, assess, manage, and provide timely feedback to ensure high-performing teams and a healthy talent pipeline. They will foster a culture of recognition across the team by celebrating wins and learning from setbacks, establish and execute against a team vision (structure and roles), create authentic connections with the team, and contribute to the mission to reflect the guests that we serve. Additionally, they will apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain, evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, champion research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies, and lead functional design and architecture discussions.

As a Sr. Engineering Manager on the Engineering Enablement team, you’ll take the lead as you will:

  • Drive Product Development: Lead product development and operations with engineers, drive technical decision-making adhering to Target platform architecture and other enterprise decisions, and focus equally on team management and development, leading a team to write production code and engage in hands-on active development of capabilities and solutions.
  • Manage Software Development Cycle: Oversee the software development cycle by adhering to development and security standards, establish good stakeholder communication, work closely with Product teams, influence product roadmap, and drive requirements.
  • Advocate Agile and DevOps Practices: Be a strong advocate of agile and DevOps practices across engineers.
  • Build and Manage Teams: Build and manage a team of high-performing engineers, provide leadership, coaching, and motivation, and recommend staffing levels, operating procedures, tools, and systems for the team.
  • Career Development and Performance Management: Provide career development and performance management to a team of engineers.

About you:

  • 4 year degree in or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of engineering (software development) experience
  • 1-3 years of managing teams with a strong track record of delivery for cross-functional product experience with Cloud hosting and managing products
  • Proficient in building high performing APIs and writing specs
  • Expertise in 2 or more of the programming languages
  • Experience with integration, data handling technologies and other open source frameworks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to variety of audiences
  • Team-orientated, passionate about developing others’ skills and capabilities
  • Successful track record of working in large enterprise technology ecosystems leading complex technology teams
  • Deep understanding of agile development processes and methodology including continuous integration and delivery, with a mindset of building incrementally and delivering business value quickly

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
