  • Project Title: Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) process optimization for cost reduction/throughput improvement

  • Project Description: In high volume semiconductor manufacturing environment, operational cost and fab throughput are key indicators to remain competitive especially with the increasing demand of memory chips to power innovation in automotive, mobile or IT solutions. Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) is one of processes in wafer fabrication which relies heavily on slurries and consumables such as polishing pads, disks, cleaning chemicals in the daily operation. Innovative ideas need to be continuously generated from both process and hardware perspective to drive for operational efficiency and excellence.

  • Project Scope: Student will have chance to experience real life process & equipment engineer role and be exposed to internal fab operation/statistical data analysis tools in high volume, fully automated semiconductor manufacturing environment. He/she will collaborate with experienced process engineer to perform design of experiment (DoE) for CMP process/equipment characterization and optimization on advanced industry leading CMP tools; technical analysis to generate insights from data and provide recommendation. Work will comprise mixture of on desk and on-site work at the point of operation. He/she will also be involved in team meeting, discussion and various company wide and team bonding events/activities.

  • Project Deliverable: Characterization data analysis and implementation execution of the optimized CMP process condition/recipe for lowered manufacturing cost and/or faster throughput without compromising safety and quality
