As a Pharmacy Technician in Outpatient Oncology, you will play a critical role in supporting pharmacists and patients by preparing and distributing medications with accuracy and care. Your responsibilities will include IV preparation of chemotherapy, cleanroom maintenance, medication and supply receiving, compounding, and inventory management. In addition to technical expertise, you will contribute to outstanding patient care by ensuring safety, accuracy and efficiency in every step of the medication process. A caregiver in this role works days from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
Prep of IV for chemotherapy.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Licensed in Ohio as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP)
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon or within 18 months of hire
Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
Basic computer skills
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
Six months of hospital experience
IV or compounding experience

Physical Requirements:
Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
