Job Summary

Unified Communications Engineering is seeking a DevOps engineer delivering quality products who also understands the direct impact of their work on the Customer experience. As a DevOps Engineer, the candidate will provide technical expertise in deploying applications to the Cloud and to internal systems. You will need to have knowledge in containerization and Linux as you will be building functional systems to deploy various applications and services. You will be working with the development and operations teams to build and manage infrastructure, processes, and systems.



Your knowledge and skills in your own discipline will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our products. You will work as a part of a large team to determine work priorities. You will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Job Responsibilities 

  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines to deploy applications and services 

  • Design, deploy and manage scalable and fault tolerant infrastructure to be used by services and applications 

  • Deploy updates to applications, services and systems as required and implement integrations when needed 

  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise during testing and production by working with others to solve the issues 

  • Administer and manage the overall cloud infrastructure and services 

  • Install and manage container orchestration software and repositories 

  • Use automation tools for infrastructure provisioning 

  • Automate deployments and processes as needed to ensure accuracy and consistency 

  • Works with CI/CD tools and source control 

  • Provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations. 

  • Monitor and analyze resource usage to recommend/develop enhancements to system capabilities and performance. 

  • Works with team members to brainstorm on ways to improve processes, deployments, and tools. Works with the team to develop best practices. 

  • Creates and maintains documentation for the process and tools used by the team. 

  • Stays current with industry trends and source new ways for our business to improve. 

 

Required Skills 

  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience with a programming language or scripting language such as Python. 

  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience using Docker and container orchestration, such as Kubernetes. 

  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience with configuration management and automation tools like Ansible and Terraform. 

  • Experience using and maintaining CI/CD tools such as Concourse, Jenkins or ArgoCD. 

  • Experience with open stack cloud or AWS platform. 

  • Experience in building scalable infrastructure stacks. 

  • Experience in Linux administration and have strong debugging skills. 

  • Experience with monitoring and managing cloud resources, services and systems using Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk/Elastic Search, Alerta. 

  • Experience in SQL/NoSQL Databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Postgres. 

  • Experience in Github, Makefiles, Maven, Haproxy/Traefik, Nginx. 

  • Ability to jointly manage resources, perform moderately complex tasks and resolve complex systems problems. 

  • The ability to prioritize tasks and multitask as needed. 

  • Ability to communicate professionally and collegially with technical and management colleagues and team members. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Drives issues through closure engaging all appropriate resources. Leads technical bridges and provides troubleshooting direction. Provides guidance and recommended solutions to complex technical issues.
  • Acts as an advocate for Engineering Operations procedures, policies and processes. Ensures projects are fully integrated into the operations environment including lifecycle problem management from front line CARE through Engineering.
  • Creates data and metric systems to track operational workflows; maintains records of results and feedback. Analyzes data and metrics, identifies problem areas and provides actionable insight to management.
  • Provides input to Engineering and vendors on defects and required enhancements. Attains all relevant industry standard technical certifications.
  • Performs complex and routine maintenance tests for designated areas of engineering. Identifies, isolates and escalates issues to appropriate personnel. Ensures that all maintenance is properly validated to minimize subscriber impact to (ideally) zero.
  • Contributes to design considerations for new products or architectural changes to existing products. Assists with or leads efforts to build new application infrastructure, coordinating efforts across teams.
  • Analyses problems in design, configuration, data flow and data state within a highly complex multi-product provisioning system.
  • Serves as team lead on multiple projects, often spanning different engineering disciplines within the organization.
  • Leads the integration of projects into operations including instrumentation, automation, standardization and methods/procedures.
  • Does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities. May direct workflow and act as a technical lead.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
