Coder is on a mission to build enterprise software that makes software developers’ lives easier and keeps them in flow. We are looking for a Senior Sales Engineer - NYC who will partner with Enterprise Account Executives to qualify, progress and close revenue opportunities with Fortune 500 customers for Coder’s self-hosted Cloud Development Environment platform.

What you will be doing: 

  • Own the technical relationship with customers through pre-sales and lead or support post-sales (as we expand this function)

  • Demonstrate the Coder platform from both the end user (developer) and administrator points of view

  • Install the Coder platform on various cloud and on-premise Kubernetes and VM infrastructure

  • Partner with prospects to run POCs to help them realize the value of Coder

  • Become a subject matter expert in cloud development environments, and how they impact the developer experience and the business

  • Serve as the voice of the customer and provide product feedback to engineering

  • Submit feature requests and issues in our public and private Git repositories for follow-up and internal communication

  • Troubleshoot a customer's Coder deployment as well as networking and Kubernetes components

  • Contribute pull requests to Coder's documentation

  • Follow up with support tickets to ensure good customer experience

What you bring: 

You have at least 5+ years of experience as a Sales Engineer, with proven success in the following areas:

  • Prospect and Customer-related Talent:

    • Strong customer facing skills including the ability to earn trust from technical contacts at our prospects while learning their current state challenges

    • Customer empathy which means you understand that the best technical solution may not always work for your customer’s workflows

    • Ability to translate technical challenges into business solutions on the fly and understand the politics of a prospect organization

    • Comfortable providing product demonstrations including architecture overviews to technical stakeholders

    • Have led detailed technical troubleshooting sessions until the issue is resolved

    • You understand how the Fortune 500 evaluates software, and the constraints they work under

  • Technical:

    • Deep foundational and working knowledge of Linux operating systems

    • 3+ years of demonstrated experience with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes

    • Experience working inside at least one of the following: AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure environments

    • 3+ years of strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code tooling, specifically Terraform

    • Firm understanding of computer networking, specifically ingress controllers, proxies, and load balancers

  • Work Ethic:

    • Strong work ethic and can move fast in a startup environment

    • Player/coach mentality; someone who is coachable, and can coach members of the team

    • Willing to go outside the bounds of their job description and comfort zone

    • You are curious about technology and are constantly learning

    • You take initiative when something needs to be done, and you own the outcome

    • You are constantly looking for ways to add value to Coder

We will be really excited if you have the following: 

  • A track record at both startup and mid-to-large software providers

  • Direct experience at a CI/CD, DevOps, Developer Tools software provider

  • You have worked in a developer platform team, platform engineering or you have worked closely with these teams

  • You have a Kubernetes certification

Interview Process 

We believe that the interview process should be consistent and enjoyable. We hope to get through the interview process in two to three weeks if schedules allow. During this time, you will be able to meet a mix of individual contributors, managers, and leadership. If this position requires a take-home assessment, we will compensate you for your work and time after completion.
