Job Description

OBJECTIVES

The VP & Head of the Neuroscience Business Unit (NSBU) is a high impact position that is critically important to Takeda’s success in the U.S. market. Therefore, the company seeks to attract a talented leader with the strategic acumen, commercial capabilities and leadership skills to lead the business. This leader will:

  • Drive all aspects of the NSBU franchise commercial strategy, operations and performance and will ensure that the franchise has the people, systems, support infrastructure and financial resources to deliver commercial success. This role is fully accountable for delivering the business objectives. This leader will be an important and influential member of the U.S. Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and is expected to provide advice and counsel to peers outside of their area of responsibility. 
  • Develop and implement a sales plan to accelerate the growth of in-line products; achieve sales, market share and operating profit objectives; successfully launch pipeline products; and successfully integrate and commercialize licensed/acquired products. This leader will enhance commercial capabilities and continuously strengthen the organization to achieve high performance, drive growth and consistently achieve business objectives. 
  • Collaborate with the Global Product & Launch Strategy (GPLS) group  on new product development by providing commercial input on development plans and target label and will support business development activities by evaluating external product candidates. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & LEADERSHIP


Reporting to the President of the US Business Unit, this leader will have  5 direct reports and will:

  • Lead the business with confidence and passion, and continually reinforce company values and culture. Maintain effective internal communications, foster teamwork, and be a constant source of inspiration and strong leadership to the organization.  
  • Collaborate with the other business units, US and corporate functions and other regions on key initiatives. 
  • Set and lead the annual and mid-term strategic direction of sales, marketing and analytics across all subordinate departments. Establish growth and profit expectations. Organize and align resources to deliver the business plan. 
  • Direct long-range planning and development programs to ensure optimum use of the organizations’ resources and capabilities to achieve growth and profitability. 
  • Oversee the execution of successful corporate and functional initiatives, especially annual corporate goals.  
  • Develop and implement commercial innovations and best practices throughout the organization. Be an effective change agent and continuously build capabilities.  
  • Support the commercial evaluation of product licensing and acquisition opportunities.
  • Support product development by providing commercial input to specialty product development plans.
  • Lead, direct, and follow through on increasing cross-functional collaboration and alignment with the rest of the Business Unit teams, and other Takeda functions. 
  • Focus on upgrading the Company’s channel strategies, including digital marketing, insights and analytics, electronic medical record strategy and consumer outreach efforts. Ensure these strategies are effectively implemented and drive increased productivity, efficiency and impact.
  • Guide the evaluation of new opportunities, and evaluation of identified leads to determine which possibilities meet the business unit objectives (financial and strategic) and establish the appropriate business steps to capitalize on these opportunities.
  • Maintain market awareness for the identification and establishment of competitive advantages and barriers to competition that enhance the business.
  • Work closely with each direct report to ensure sound strategic thinking, accurate forecasting, superior tactical execution, and commitment to results, collaborative and cross-functional behavior, and the continuous development of talent. Foster a high-performance business environment with clear accountability for delivering results.
  • Ensure best-in-class compliance programs.  Aggressively and constructively pursue and resolve potential compliance issues.

Technical/Functional Expertise

  • Balanced knowledge of commercial and R&D/pre-launch strategies.  Ability to collaborate with GPLS on new product development by providing commercial input on development plans and target label.  Experience evaluating external product candidates for Business Development purposes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • BS or BA degree required. MBA is preferred.
  • Extensive commercial experience gained through a progression of sales, marketing, franchise, business unit and/or general management leadership roles of increasing scale, breadth and complexity. 
  • Extensive experience in the U.S market is preferred. Knows the science, clinical practices, market dynamics, competitive products, competitive selling strategies, etc., in multiple regions/markets in the United States. International experience and/or experience in roles with global responsibilities is a positive, with proven ability to collaborate with international colleagues.
  • Broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and experience in specialty pharmaceuticals is required. Experience in Neuroscience-related therapies and/or multiple specialty therapeutic areas are advantageous.
  • Proven command of marketing and sales disciplines and techniques, and deep expertise in market access and payor marketing. Demonstrated success in commercial planning, launching products, life cycle management and implementing innovative commercial strategies.
  • Significant P&L experience required.
  • Experience leading sales and marketing for commercial organization, oversight of full P&L.  Senior leadership and oversight for commercial strategy, operations and overall performance. 
  • Experience in enhancing commercial capabilities to achieve high performance, drive growth and consistently achieve business objectives. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips. International travel will be required.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$320,000.00 - $440,000.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
