This 12-month, 1.0FTE position is in a College that fosters academic and professional excellence in leadership and service through a variety of health science programs: Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Public Health, Clinical Psychology, Athletic Training, and Kinesiology. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is comprised of a fully accredited, Physician Assistant (PA) Program. Currently, the department includes 13 full-time faculty members, who are all PAs or MDs and licensed to practice in the state of Georgia, and numerous associated faculty.
Responsibilities
Under direction of the Dean of the College of Health Professions, the Chair is responsible for the continued development and leadership of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies in the areas of accreditation; curriculum; faculty development; student recruitment, admissions, and development; program evaluation; quality improvement; strategic planning; and budget management. The Chair will also be involved in teaching, scholarly activities, and service to the College, University, and community.
Qualifications
Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine as PA (NCCPA-certified) in Georgia, or immediate eligibility
Master’s degree required; earned terminal academic degree (eg, PhD, EdD, DHS) preferred
Evidence of meeting all ARC-PA accreditation requirements for the role as PA Program Director, including, but not limited to:
responsiveness to issues related to personnel
strong communication skills with internal and external constituents
proactive problem-solving
experience with program organization and administration
fiscal planning and management of the program
continuous programmatic planning, development, review, and analysis
Minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a PA Program
Experience with overseeing departmental financial processes and management of personnel-related activities, such as recruitment, new hire recommendations, and performance evaluations
Evidence of academic success through promotion in rank to Associate Professor or eligibility for promotion
Active involvement in the PA profession and understanding of key issues in PA education
Previous leadership experience in a PA Program preferred; previous experience with ARC-PA preferred
