At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

As a Senior Principal Architect at Roche Information Solutions (RIS), you will be the technical North Star for a product comprising 6 cross-functional teams. Your mission is to evolve a high-scale, legacy cloud-native pathology platform into an Agentic Ecosystem.

You won't just oversee code; you will architect the "Golden Path" for how our engineers use AI, while simultaneously redesigning our clinical workflows—from image ingestion to diagnostic decision support—to be AI-native. You are responsible for ensuring that as we modernize, our architecture remains robust, compliant, and optimized for the next generation of medical intelligence.

The "AI-First" Architectural Vision

Beyond standard architectural patterns, you will lead the cultural and technical shift toward Agentic:

  • Systemic AI Integration: Designing orchestration layers where AI agents are first-class citizens within the microservices architecture, not just "add-on" features.

  • Architectural Guardrails for GenAI: Defining the standards for prompt engineering, LLM caching, and vector database integration at an enterprise scale.

  • Autonomous SDLC: Leading the strategy for "Self-Healing" codebases and automated PR reviews by configuring custom AI agents that understand the Roche RIS domain.

The Opportunity:

  • Modernizing Legacy at Scale: Lead the architectural evolution of existing Java/Spring microservices, identifying strategic "seams" to introduce agentic capabilities without disrupting clinical operations.

  • Cross-Team Governance: Set the technical standards for 6 development teams, ensuring consistency in API design, security, and cloud-native best practices.

  • Agentic Tech Stack Selection: Evaluate and implement the right tools (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, or proprietary agent frameworks) to build a scalable AI infrastructure.

  • Security & Compliance: Ensure that all AI-driven architectural decisions meet the rigorous data privacy (GDPR/HIPAA) and quality standards required for medical devices.

Who you are:

  • Expert Architect: Extensive experience in high-level system design, specifically with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and AWS. You have a proven track record of managing technical debt in complex legacy environments.

  • Agentic Visionary: You are deeply familiar with the evolving "Agentic" tech stack—understanding how to move from simple RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to fully autonomous agent loops.

  • Strategic Influencer: You can articulate a multi-year technical roadmap to executive leadership while remaining "hands-on" enough to pair-program with Seniors on critical bottlenecks.

  • Education: 12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a Principal or Lead Architect role.
