As a Shop Mechanic, you will work under general directive supervision to provide service to our systems and equipment and operate our shop equipment. This role is important for the safety and comfort of our patients and caregivers. It is a mechanical oriented role meant for individuals who enjoy tearing apart and rebuilding motors, pumps, etc. 


A caregiver in this position works 7:00am—3:30pm.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Install, adjust, and repair machinery, equipment, and systems such as air handling units, steam traps, valves, pumps, compressors, gear reduction units, v-belt drives, pressure cooking units, laundry machines, sterilizers, and gas stoves as assigned by Supervision, works from blueprints, lay-outs, sketches, and drawings. 

  • Repair positive displacement equipment with an understanding of internal parts, rebuild damaged or worn equipment to original working condition. 

  • Diagnose, repair, and calibrate flow controls and valves for refrigeration, steam, water, medical air, and pneumatic systems. 

  • Diagnose and maintain electro/mechanical systems used in several different areas such as laundry production, refrigeration, temperature control, and medical air systems. 

  • Operate lathe, milling machine, drill press, grinder, and saw; fabricates necessary parts; cuts, threads, and bends pipe and tubing; performs welding and soldering as required. 

  • Requisition parts as needed to effect repairs; tests equipment and systems to insure proper functioning after installation, adjustment, or repair. 

  • Keep work area, tools, and equipment operating in clean and orderly condition; assists in the orientation and training of new employees. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school graduate or the equivalent including industrial arts and general shop and basic electricity courses OR the equivalent and training in welding and brazing. 

  • Five years of experience in one of the following: machinist in machine shop, HVAC repair and installation, or maintenance mechanic in institutional or commercial building. 

  • Working knowledge of blueprints drawings and specifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work rapidly for extended periods of time frequently in cramped and difficult positions; ability to perform strenuous physical operations.

  • Willingness to work under conditions which include dirt high and low temperatures noise inadequate lighting and ventilation and dust.
