GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Information Security Intern will monitor and maintain security measures to protect the College’s computing and information systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and protects the College’s computer and network information systems.

  • Employs security best practices.

  • Research new and emerging technologies.

  • Prepare and document standard operating procedures.

  • Provide trouble ticket support, resolution, and escalation.

  • Produce written reporting products, as required.

  • Effectively operate in a team environment.

  • This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Current or past enrollment in an information security education program.

  • Formal training or education in information technology

  • Knowledgeable with securing network systems, desktops, servers, and virtual environments.

  • Basic understanding of security best practices and standards of compliance.

  • Must understand enterprise networking, operating systems, IDS/IPS, anti-malware, DLP, scanning/security testing tools, firewalls, databases, and web filtering.

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required, and must be able to operate effectively in a team environment.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

  • Security certifications from Cisco, CompTIA, (ISC) 2 or SANS preferred.
