The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Private Equity Co-op Student/Intern for the either Winter 2025 (January to April) or Summer 2025 (May to August) to support our team. You will work with our Private Equity department which manages a portfolio of approximately $28.3 billion in global private equity investments. Investments include direct investments in private companies as well as partnerships with leading private equity firms. The portfolio is expected to grow significantly over the coming years, with an increased emphasis on direct investments.
You will assist the Private Equity team in screening live investment opportunities, summarizing market intelligence, performing financial analysis, and finding ways to enhance the existing portfolio. During this work term, you will:
Conduct due diligence for new investment opportunities
Assist with the preparation of investment memoranda
Review, summarize, and analyze quarterly information for existing portfolio investments
Analyze investment performance on an individual and aggregate investment basis
Conduct sector research
Assist with enhancing current operational procedures within the Private Equity team
Required Skills
A fundamental knowledge of finance, business and investment related disciplines
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
Strong relationship-building ability, proactiveness, results oriented, and resourceful
Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail
Have an interest for investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
Analytical and problem solving abilities
Extensive experience in financial analysis and models in Excel, and PowerPoint decks is strongly preferred
Knowledge of Capital IQ and Bloomberg applications is considered an asset
Students in an undergraduate Finance or Economics program
Team players who have the drive to continue learning, excel, and grow in a team oriented and dynamic environment
Adventurous students curious about what the West Coast has to offer
Has a passion for investing and a drive to continually learn about financial markets and the investment process
Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description
Participates in a student investment club or other investment case competitions
Prior experience in investment banking, private equity, equity research, management consulting, corporate development, or accounting is strongly preferred
Outstanding academic track record (A- equivalent cumulative GPA with more consideration given to strong finance/accounting/economics grades)
Pursuit of the CFA designation considered an asset
Preference for students who have shown initiative and a passion for the investment industry
Training and mentorship to develop your knowledge and professional skill sets that are required to succeed in the industry

Competitive pay: Front Office: $2,665.00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary

Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
