Job Description Summary

The Senior Technical Controller will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on complex accounting matters, providing technical and operational guidance and ensuring compliance with US GAAP for specialized areas including revenue recognition when and if applicable ( software), software capitalization impairment assessments, functional currency assessments, pension accounting and various liability ( asset retirement obligation, EHS, Fin 45/guarantees and restructuring ), and grant accounting issues.

This role is crucial in ensuring compliance to accounting policies, ensuring consistent application of accounting policies across tier businesses within power, and providing high-level technical judgment on moderately complex issues that impact the entire Power business financial reporting accuracy and effectiveness. This position operates with moderate degree of autonomy and using expert judgment to solve complex problems . Strong understanding of how the areas of responsibility integrate with other functions.

In addition the role involves solving moderately complex tasks and problems that require the use of judgment and a high level of technical proficiency. The incumbent must be able to navigate ambiguity, applying accounting standards to unique and often novel business scenarios to ensure compliant and accurate financial reporting

Job Description

What you’ll do:

  • Power Capitalized Software Assets Impairment Assessment: Conduct the annual regular impairment assessments for capitalized software assets, utilizing judgment to evaluate complex qualitative and quantitative factors.
  • Specialized Accounting Areas requiring - competent and technical accounting knowledge to manage complex, specialized financial reporting areas.
    • Factoring: Oversee the accounting treatment for approved and applicable  accounts receivable factoring arrangements, ensuring proper classification and disclosure.
    • Restructuring & Environmental Accounting: Manage the accounting for restructuring charges and environmental liabilities across Power, including the recognition, measurement, and disclosure of related provisions.
    • Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO) & Guarantees: Ensure accurate identification, measurement,  ongoing monitoring  and reporting across Power of AROs and guarantee liabilities.
    • Grant Accounting: lead  technical guidance and assessment  including  annual reporting for government  grants, ensuring compliance to accounting standards  and reporting requirements.
  • Functional Currency Assessments: Perform ongoing assessments of functional currencies for relevant entities across Power  and documenting and communication conclusions to impacted constituents .
  • Pension Accounting (Wing-to-Wing):
    • Oversee the entire pension accounting lifecycle, including, actuarial assessment evaluation for true up recognition,  income statement and balance sheet recognition, quarterly DR reporting  monitoring tracking  across Power, account reconciliation oversite  and  balance sheet  variance analysis and  commentary .
  • Software Revenue Recognition
    • Lead the application and interpretation of ASC 606  requirements for complex revenue transaction, when applicable ,  involving software.
    • When requested serve as the primary technical contact support on software revenue recognition policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a quality assurance resource, ensuring accounting practices adhere to established policies. 
  • Develop and write accounting memos for significant and/or complex transactions impacting the specialized areas of responsibility
  • Build up and maintain strong working relationships with relevant functional areas within Gas Power and Vernova Corporate
  • For time to time the job may require specific one-time initiatives requiring relevant technical knowledge  

What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 8 to 9 years of experience in the accounting/ finance field.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years' experience years' experience with external audit firms.

  • High level of analytical and technical skills and a strong knowledge of accounting in particular pension accounting, grant accounting, restructuring   and functional currency legal entity assessment.

  • Demonstrated success working with teams in different time zones.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Practical knowledge and use of Hyperion Essbase reporting.
  • Practical knowledge of the workings of some of Gas Power ERP systems, principally JE processing, like SAP PMX, or Uniform.
  • Good understanding of GE General Chart of Account Accounting Hierarchy
  • Practical knowledge and Use of FDL – pulling transaction registers and TB’s
