Job Details:

Mercer University School of Medicine is seeking a highly qualified medical educator with broad training and demonstrated experience or enthusiasm for teaching in an integrated pre-clerkship medical school curriculum. This position is a tenure track, 12-month appointment on the Savannah, GA campus.


 

Responsibilities:

Mercer University School of Medicine seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology. We seek candidates whose research focuses may include but not limited to the following emphasis on infectious diseases: (1) microbe-host cell interactions; (2) microbial pathogenesis and immunity; (3) vaccine engineering and immunology; and (4) microbial applications in medicine (microbiota, probiotics etc).

The candidate is expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program and to interact collaboratively with basic scientists, community medicine faculty, and clinical faculty located on the Macon, Savannah, Columbus, and Atlanta campuses.

Successful candidates will also be expected to participate in training initiatives involving undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. The department currently offers a Masters of PhD in Biomedical Sciences degree and is positioned to launch a PhD program.

The medical school has reinforced its commitment to enhance research for faculty and students. It has facilities for electron and confocal microscopy, well equipped molecular and cell culture labs, fluorescence-activated cell sorting facilities, and animal husbandry available to all investigators. The school is also part of the Georgia Research Alliance Core Exchange, which allows researchers to find and access facilities and equipment in numerous public and private universities across the state.

Outside of the laboratory, the successful applicant will participate in MUSM's interdisciplinary patient-based learning curriculum for medical students. 

Applications for consideration at the Associate Professor level must have a demonstrated track record of scholarly research including extramural, peer-reviewed funding and excellence in teaching. 

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD., MD, or equivalent) from an accredited University/College and have at least three years of post-doctoral experience with a record of scholarly activity as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and grant-submission experience.
