About Team:

Returns Engineering team at Walmart Global Tech builds scalable, high-performance systems that power returns across Walmart’s eCommerce, Fulfilment, and Inventory platforms. The team focuses on solving complex engineering problems at scale while enabling seamless customer and business experiences. Engineers here work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, owning code end-to-end and continuously improving system quality and performance.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop, and review backend systems operating at Walmart scale across multiple business domains
• Build scalable, high-performing, and resilient distributed systems
• Collaborate with product and business teams to design solutions aligned with real-world use cases
• Gain hands-on experience in designing and developing sophisticated backend platforms
• Leverage modern technologies and public cloud platforms to build scalable solutions
• Present ideas and contribute to innovation initiatives across broader engineering teams
• Solve complex technical challenges and continuously improve system performance and reliability

What you'll bring:

• B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech/MS in Computer Science or related field
• 3+ years of experience in Java/J2EE, distributed databases, and Kafka with hands-on expertise in multi-threading and functional programming
• Experience working with large-scale distributed systems
• Strong computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving
• Good debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of SDLC best practices including coding standards, code reviews, CI/CD, testing, and operations
• Hands-on experience with cloud technologies and microservices architecture
• Strong communication skills with ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions
• Exposure to scalable and fault-tolerant distributed systems
• Exposure to information retrieval, statistics, or machine learning is a plus
