Position Overview

As a Lead Consulting Actuary, you will lead a team of industry professionals on regulatory consulting engagements.  This position has opportunity for advancement as well as personal and professional growth.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the leader and actuarial subject matter expert on client engagements including; prepare original actuarial analysis or review actuarial analysis performed by others, coordinate internal resources including making staffing decisions, advise project team on potential solutions and strategies to meet project goals and client needs, lead risk management and resolution of issues, adhere to project budget and timelines and manage teams to meet budgets and timelines, support ongoing knowledge of team with focus on evolving regulatory standards, ensure quality of final work products and train and mentor junior staff.

Business development; create new business opportunities through individual selling efforts as well as by supporting team sales initiatives, cultivate and nurture client relationships to create awareness of Firm capabilities to help generate incremental business, assist in formulating proposals demonstrating our value proposition and our solutions.

Contribute to the intellectual capital of the practice and Firm.  Own operational efficiency and targeted improvements to operations of the actuarial practice.

Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or Statistics; MBA and/or professional certification/s preferred
  • Minimum of 10+ years professional experience in a Life insurance company, financial services or consulting firm.Some consulting experience is required
  • ASA, FSA, MAAA designations preferred
  • Knowledge of actuarial concepts: financial modeling and analysis, statutory valuation and reserving, risk management, product development and pricing, Asset Liability Management (ALM), actuarial software, life, annuity and reinsurance products
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills; ability to tackle challenges creatively
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for reserving and rating
  • PC skills, including experience in using software for producing presentations, spreadsheets, and project planning (skills in Microsoft Office, TeamMate, ACL/Access, Visual Basic, MS Excel and other applications)
  • Ability to lead discussions with all levels including executives and senior managers
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, analytical and statistical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and assignments
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Dynamic/flexible demeanor with exceptional client service skill
  • Must be self-motivated and possess a sense of urgency
  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional standards as outlined by the Firm

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $155,400 - $312,400

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
