Position Description:
Oversees the architecture of distributed systems and applications in a cloud environment utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure cloud technologies. Directs the implementation of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines (CI/CD) leveraging automated testing technologies -- Maven and Git. Develops web applications utilizing coding languages -- CSS, JAVA, and HTML. Works with Application Program Interface (API) protocols in the development and management of microservices architecture, infrastructure, data architecture, security, and new technologies. Draws on in-depth knowledge of advanced principles, theories, and concepts to implement scalable solutions. Consults with development architects and business on internal service quality control standards, policies, and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provides leadership to the product teams through software application architecture designs, adoption of standards, collaboration with key partners and evaluations and recommendations of solutions.
Works closely with business partners and technology teams to understand business objectives and define appropriate architecture direction.
Ensures technology decisions align with enterprise standards and strategy.
Establishes strategic direction, setting standards and choosing technologies.
Analyzes business direction and challenges to understand long term vision and risks, enabling the development of strategic technical solutions.
Works closely with product and application teams in technology evaluation, selection, recommendation, and configuration.
Designs, develops and modifies complex and major software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
Develops and directs software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.
Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.
Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.
Advises senior management on technical strategy.
Researches and recommends new technologies.
Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.
Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.
Identifies and plans for future resource needs.
Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Architecture (or closely related occupation) developing distributed applications within a financial services environment, supporting workplace investment and benefits programs.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Architecture (or closely related occupation) developing distributed applications within a financial services environment, supporting workplace investment and benefits programs.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) utilizing domain driven design to create APIs and microservices in REST and SOAP formats, using Java and C# (.Net), adhering to API standards, and following security guidelines that meet industry and regulatory requirements.
DE participating in large scale mainframe modernization initiatives, including re-platforming, refactoring, and advising on data strategies (data retrievals from mainframe), using Java based wrappers and native DB2 stored procedures; and following the right architectural patterns to modernize mainframe-based applications to a modern distributed tech stack.
DE architecting and engineering enterprise level, multi-Cloud-based platforms built on Docker, Kubernetes, and Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS and AKS) to enable teams to deploy dynamic full stack applications on cloud service platforms (AWS and Azure), handling fluctuations in application traffic driven by customer actions -- trading and money movement.
DE architecting event driven applications with asynchronous and high-volume workloads using Kafka, AWS SQS, and Lambda functions; and designing rules engines to abstract business logic for the rules using DROOLS/ODM.
