POSITION SUMMARY:
The SVP, Treasurer will be a key member of the company’s financial management team. The successful candidate will partner extensively with colleagues across the enterprise to support strategy efforts and initiatives in consultation with executive management, and will actively support and facilitate business unit initiatives, new products, and planning. He/she will maintain robust two-way communications with business units, regularly sharing information and educating units regarding key treasury issues and concerns, and staying well information about key business issues in the lines. He/she will possess the ability to influence key internal decision makers including the CEO and many of his direct reports, including business unit leads, to appropriately create and communicate a balance of risk and return.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Specific responsibilities include:
- Balance Sheet Management
- Provide analysis to executive management and the board of the treasury- related risks of the total company balance sheet, including interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and other market related risks.
- Day-to-day responsibility for the development of a top-down optimization process to support the ongoing allocation of capital among business units. This process will help ensure that specific investments are aligned with corporate strategies and return targets and integrated with the company’s balance sheet management strategy.
- Develop asset/liability management strategies that coordinate hedging actions with the projected growth in the company, the capital markets activities of funding and investment managers and different market outlooks to achieve interest rate risk and other financial objectives
- Routinely bring together parties from across the enterprise to collaborate around critical issues in ALM and balance sheet management; to include creating thought leadership to build consensus, surface appropriate issues and drive actionable outcomes.
- Funding and Liquidity Risk Management
- Forecast and plan balance street strategies, primarily focusing on capital, funding and liquidity planning. Develop a sound liquidity structure.
- Manage liquidity risk modeling and stress-testing activities, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Interest Rate Risk and Currency Management
- Act as the company’s primary risk manager for interest rate risk. The risk management process includes identification and measurement of risks, communication of risks to decision makers, implementation of risk management strategies (including hedges), and evaluation of risk management performance.
- Develop derivative hedging tactics and new hedging capabilities, including tools for hedging new asset and liability instruments to facilitate business initiatives while managing risk consistent with interest rate risk objectives.
- Ensure the company is measuring and managing to appropriate risk objectives by developing insightful interest rate stress scenarios and risk limits.
- Monitor currency risk and design hedges against potential fluctuating currencies.
- Capital Management
- Lead all aspects of capital management for the organization. Develop and execute strategy, forecasting and implementation of capital management initiatives (i.e acquisitions implementation and balance sheet optimization)
- Manage and lead the organization’s stock buyback strategy.
- Establish appropriate thresholds and targets, and risk appetite for capital mandate.
- Treasury Operations
- Oversee performance of treasury operations, including cash position and debt and capital management
- Maintain effective communication with accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll
- Identify and implement improvements to cash management and treasury operations processes
- Leadership
- The successful executive will be called upon, and expected to demonstrate a willingness, to take the lead on enterprise-wide initiatives outside of treasury to become a true business partner and leader to the entire organization.
- Attract, retain, and develop top-caliber talent.
- Develop the skills and abilities of all team members, with the result that they perform to at their highest potential and optimize their current and future job performance.
- Develop and maintain sufficient depth in all critical functions, minimizing “key-man” risk.
- Develop the depth of the Treasury team, including ongoing management succession planning.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful candidate should possess a minimum of 15 years of treasury/corporate development experience reflecting progressive growth in a leadership function with a dynamic, well managed financial services organization, preferably insurance oriented.
- The individual will have experience managing multiple aspects (for example: funding, hedging, modeling) of treasury operations within a financial services organization.
- Proven strength in relationship development across business lines.
- This individual will have managed or have had direct exposure to Corporate Development and Investor Relations initiatives.
- Experience managing stakeholder outreach including FI investor marketing, liaising with industry peers, associations, appropriate press, and liaising and influencing regulators.
- A strong professional with a track record of success in leadership and a demonstrated ability to attract, motivate and retain talent in all relevant functions.
- Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with executives and senior managers in LOBs, regulators, Board of Directors, and rating agencies.
- Demonstrated project management experience to manage multiple projects in fast paced and evolving environment and meet timelines.
- A well organized, disciplined planner and implementer with sound strategic judgment, thinking and vision.
- This is a hybrid position that will require working 2-3 days a week from our Chicago office location
