The GSK Terminology Management platform serves up publicly available and internally specified terminologies across Research and Development. As part of the ecosystem, the Ontology Management Platform must both provide a repository for terminologies, alongside the tools and workflows for their governance. The primary purpose of this job is to work as part of a team who are accountable to develop and promote the use of terminologies, from simple reference lists to complex ontologies, and to serve them up in a FAIR and trustworthy manner, to the whole of GSK.

The success of the Product Designer role is defined by their ability to translate diverse user requirements into actionable tech enhancements. The platform under their responsibility needs to be appropriately validated, compliant, and always ready for inspection. The Designer must also maintain effective operational oversight, vendor management, stakeholder engagement, and customer support. Additionally, they must successfully support and input to system strategy, ensure data quality is being enforced adequately, and provide necessary project support, demonstrating effectiveness and accountability across the entire project stack. The Designer will understand the value of FAIR semantics and help design a single Terminology Platform.

Why is this job critical?

This role will actively support and drive the terminology platform team. The Product Designer will work with the Product Owner to drive FAIR semantics and create an interoperable, platform and suite of tools to enable both human and machine-actionable self-service interactions with terminologies across GSK R&D

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Focus: Support system strategy in terms of a high-level view of whether to maintain, enhance, or divest the system. Develop strategic partnerships with internal business, IT groups, and external vendors.

  • Product Design: Drive design and development of the product to meet varied stakeholder requirements.

  • Semantic coherency:

  • Compliance: Ensure that the system is compliant with all Legislative or Regulatory requirements, is access controlled, and fit for purpose. Ensure completeness of SOPs, validation documentation, and approval. Represent the system in an audit and formally respond to any CAPAs.

  • Data Quality: Ensure data is appropriately classified and quality is defined, controlled, and aligns to company policies and principles related to data integrity through all system versions. Establish effective and meaningful system and process metrics demonstrating data quality. Ensure the adequate stakeholders are involved and aware of their responsibilities.

  • Operational Oversight: Ensure day-to-day system operations are in place including governance and oversight, risk management, alignment to other systems and processes, maintenance of process maps, user documentation, training, and communications.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain stakeholder listing for issue escalation, general communication, and project participation. Maintain an engagement plan for regular education, business process improvements, customer forums, and data quality exercises.

  • Project Support: Ensure that new or updated functionality and performance is aligned to the business need. Identify business resources for project activities including user stories, business requirements, user acceptance testing, and go-live activities. Collaborate with our expert PM and change manager for this task.

  • Customer Support: Ensure Support Service is in place. Ensure the appropriate level of help desk support for the system is maintained, fully staffed, trained, and educated, support knowledge is documented and retired as appropriate. Act as an escalation point person when required.

Desired Qualification:

  • Overall, 10-15 years of experience with Bachelor's in computer science, software engineering, or related field

  • 7+years of exp in a Product owner role

  • Experienced in Project/. Program Management

  • Must have good understanding of Infrastructure and data fabric understanding

  • Good knowledge of Python

Desirable skills:

  • Semantics/ontologies and reference data

  • Data governance

  • Workflow design

  • Access management

  • Documentation of compliant products and procedures

  • CENtree knowledge (not wholly implausible)

  • SQL database/ETL modelling

  • RDF data management

  • Code/product design using Python, Java and Bash scripting

  • Azure/Unix infrastructure
