Our services span Advisory, Technology and Managed Services offerings. Through our services to address our client’s most important policy, strategy and transformation challenges, we are mission-driven in creating positive impact affecting society and communities.
We are recruiting for a Managing Consultant to be based in Aberdeen, supporting a major UK initiative focused on clean energy and economic transformation. This is a delivery-focused role for a high-performing consultant to join our Energy & Public Sector team and contribute to one of the highest-profile energy transformation programmes in the UK.
As a Managing Consultant, you will play a central role in delivering technical and strategic advisory services to our public sector energy clients, including onsite client support, collaborative programme delivery, knowledge transfer and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with Guidehouse partners and technical experts, supporting the delivery of complex commissions across clean energy investment, policy, technology, local economic development and public value.
You will serve as an on-the-ground presence with the client. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in clean energy, economic development or public-sector consulting who are seeking to make meaningful, long-term impact in a high-profile initiative.
What You Will Need:
Significant relevant experience (typically 6+ years) in strategy, operations, or policy consulting, preferably with exposure to the public sector, energy transition, or infrastructure delivery.
Experience supporting large-scale programme delivery in the UK energy or infrastructure sector, ideally including clean energy, public-private partnerships or institutional development.
Strong understanding of the UK energy system and the policy landscape (e.g. net zero targets, energy security, regional investment).
Function as a de facto “Chief of Staff” to the client executive team, providing coordination across internal workstreams, strategic input into emerging priorities, and supporting executive decision-making with structured insights and stakeholder alignment.
Ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams (technical, commercial, community) and to act as a reliable delivery lead for workstreams with defined timelines, outputs and client interfaces.
Willingness and ability to be based in Aberdeen, Scotland and provide regular in-person support to the client.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including confidence in working with public officials, local authorities, industry bodies and technical partners.
Excellent analytical and written communication skills, with an ability to synthesise complex topics for both expert and non-expert audiences.
Ability to manage and deliver multiple concurrent projects or commissions, working both independently and collaboratively.
Collegial team-player who can collaborate across matrixed environments and lead small teams when required.
Ability to uphold and be an ambassador for Guidehouse’s corporate values of respect, innovation, integrity, stewardship, and excellence (RIISE), and champion Guidehouse’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. engineering, economics, policy, sustainability, or business).
Authorisation to work in the UK market.
What Would Be Nice to Have:
Experience supporting UK public bodies such as DESNZ, local authorities, or arms-length bodies.
Knowledge of project governance models in public-sector institutions (e.g. Green Book, Five Case Model, public value frameworks).
Experience in delivery of technical advisory, business case development or strategic planning in energy, net zero, or local economic development contexts.
Familiarity with clean power technologies and supply chain development in the UK (e.g. wind, solar, hydrogen, storage, local energy).
Experience in organisational design, programme management or public value measurement.
