About the Role

You will be responsible for leading and executing the development, implementation and assessment of Communication strategies for the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health (VTMH) state-wide Unit. This role includes “high-level communication strategies” as well as logistics associated with events.

  • Develop comprehensive high-level communication strategies that are in alignment with VTMH service model and promotes VTMH sector positioning
  • Lead the development and implementation of VTMH communications state-wide strategy
  • Promote VTMH and its work through high quality communications. This will include supporting VTMH to lead and influence the mental health sector and its practices, policies and frameworks through communication initiatives.
  • Coproduce all areas of VTMH’s communications including the organisation’s website, publications and resources including videos, electronic newsletters and communication, social media content and annual reports
  • Support engagement strategies with community members, lived and living experience, stakeholders, clinical services and government.

The classification for this position will be YC90 ($79,003 per annum pro rata)

Your Contribution & Selection Criteria

  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated achievement in the planning and delivery of quality communications including publications, resources and media
  • Experience using campaign and online event platforms
  • Experience maintaining and updating websites
  • Experience and/or strong interest in working in mental health
  • Experience and/or strong interest in working with communities with migrant and refugee experience and other marginalised communities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Tertiary qualifications (such as media and communication, marketing, professional writing and editing, graphic design or other relevant qualification) and/or experience in strategic communications
  • Willing to travel metro and rural areas of Victoria as required
  • Hold a valid Victorian Drivers License
  • Demonstrated expertise in media engagement
  • Experience in creative production
  • Current National Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

About Victorian Transcultural Mental Health (VTMH)

VTMH is funded by the Victorian Department of Health and sits as a specialist unit within St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

Victorian Transcultural Mental Health (VTMH) builds the capacity of the public mental health and wellbeing sector to deliver services that engage with and are responsive to the needs of diverse communities, working together to ensure that all Victorians can have access to a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive mental health care system.

The unit works with organisations and agencies to strengthen their capacity to address inequity in mental health service provision, with the overarching goal of improving the mental health, social and emotional wellbeing of culturally diverse individuals, families and communities.

VTMH Main Areas of Work Include

  • Sector consultancy: Providing recommendations to governments, peak bodies, and stakeholder groups to bring a transcultural and intersectional lens to key priority areas.
  • Organisational development: Supporting organisations to implement organisation-wide approaches to embedding cultural responsiveness.
  • Workforce education: Strengthening the capacity of the mental health and wellbeing workforce by providing opportunities for learning, self-reflection, and the sharing of knowledge.
