At People Tech Platform team, we help, support and empower the Walmart associates with platforms as solutions to improve productivity of People Tech Domain teams, harnessing the opportunities for growth, focusing on well-being and cultivating cultures of belonging for all Walmart's associates. People Tech Platform is a horizontal team supporting People Tech across a multitude of use-cases and business domains.

People Tech aims to empower the people business and associates by converting Walmart’s people data, platform, business processes, knowledge, and HR subject matter expertise into different productivity experiences like knowledge search and Q&A, data analytics and insights, actions, and recommendations etc.  The People Tech Platform team is responsible for developing and deploying platform solutions supporting the Applications for Walmart associates globally. 

The People Tech Platform team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer, Full-Stack. In this individual contributor role, you are expected to be the technical subject matter expert, mentor, and industry leader for creating highly performant, scalable, and user-friendly web and mobile applications that exceed customer and business needs. You need to possess outstanding development experience in Java, React, NextJs, Typescript Node.js with a deep passion for design and customer experience. Also, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our products and systems with responsibilities including leading the creation and maintenance of high-quality code, aligning it with business goals and scalability requirements, and architecting complex software systems to ensure performance, security, and scalability needs are met. Additionally, the role involves providing hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and establishing and enforcing coding standards through thorough code reviews.

About Team:

The EBS People Technology team supports the successful deployment and adoption of new People technology across the enterprise. People Technology is one of the major segments of Walmart Global Tech’s Enterprise Business Services, which is invested in building a compact, robust organization that includes service operations and technology solutions for Finance, People, and the Associate Digital Experience.

Enterprise Business Services (EBS) @ IDC Bangalore and Chennai in India are focused on data driven, highly optimized products and implementations in the areas of Finance, Procurement, Human Resources and Retail business functions for multiple Walmart markets with open stack technologies and other ERP tools.

What you'll do:

This is a vital role with significant growth prospects. You will have work to do from day one and you will be counted on to create opportunities that align with the overall organization goals. Some of this role’s key responsibilities are but not limited to: 

• Lead, own, and/or support the development of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable backend and front-end development using Java, Python and React
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deliver software products that meet business goals and user needs
• Mentoring and guiding junior engineers in best practices, design patterns, and development methodologies
• Providing technical guidance and expertise to ensure the highest level of quality and performance in our front-end applications
•  Enhancing usage, metrics, and logging details
• Support CI/CD effort, configuration, and enhancements 
• Support in release, deployment activities, and production support rotation 
• Staying up to date with emerging trends and technologies in the field of backend, front-end development and applying this knowledge to drive innovation and improvement
• Work in an Agile environment as part of a scrum team 
• Help design end-to-end system architecture for data-intensive applications 
• Collaborate with engineers and data scientists to iteratively improve integration with GenAI platform and services
• Support production operations by participating in on-call rotations 

What you’ll bring:

• You have 12+ years' experience in designing and developing highly performant, scalable, and user-friendly distributed platform and web applications
• You have a bachelor's/master's degree in computer science, information technology, or related area
• Expert level knowledge of Java, Python, React, NextJs, Typescript, Node.js, Kafka, Cosmos DB, Cassandra
• Experience in writing effective test cases and test automation 
• Experience in implementing QE strategy, frameworks and automation for mobile and web applications.
•  Experience releasing web solutions to production
• Experience taking ideas to implementation 
• Deep understanding, and experience of debugging issues in mobile and web applications 
• Experience with data storage and data retrieval 
• Experience with authorization and authentication frameworks in implementing those into mobile and web applications 
• Experience with version control using Git in collaboration settings
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug complex issues and optimize application performance
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A good understanding of and experience integrating with AI/ML/GenAI services and components
• You are thorough and detail oriented 
• You believe in the importance of establishing work standards and leveraging automations 
• You have a history of collaboration, openness, honesty, timely decision making, and clear communication in both verbal and written forms 
• You embrace lifelong learning - always learning new technologies and techniques. You are also engaged in the open-source communities to both find answers and help others
