Explore and embrace your role: (Job Responsibilities) 

The work you do as a Fire Investigator will directly impact our clients, your work will support delivering excellent project results and stellar client experience. If you enjoy being out from behind the desk, like to be technically challenged, and have a curious mind this is the career for you. Fire and arson investigators examine the physical attributes of a fire scene and identify and collect physical evidence from the scene. This evidence is then analyzed to help determine the cause of the fire.  

  • Investigates & analyzes the origin and cause of fire and explosion events within residential, commercial, and industrial sites. 

  • Collects Evidence and Document scenes per NFPA 921 & 1033 

  • Analyzes and evaluates building systems and appropriate Jurisdictional Fire, Safety and Building Codes 

  • Research failure modes and code requirements as needed, prepare recommendations 

  • Prepares reports and other documentation for clients. 

  • Establishes trusted working relationship with clients and interacts socially at mixed engagements with clients. 

 

Essential expertise to ensure success: 

  • Active NAFI-CFEI and/or IAAI-CFI or the ability to obtain  

  • 5+ years of experience as a fire investigator – a combination of Public and Private sector experience is ideal (a combination of education and experience will be considered) 

  • Must be bondable and eligible for licensing as a private investigator where so required 

  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in a work capacity 

  • 50%+ travel 

  • Ability to work in inclement weather and various environmental conditions 

  • Ability to work in high areas such as roofs or scaffolding, requiring physical agility, balance, and resistance to acrophobia. 

Elevated expertise to excel/stand-out: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Science/Fire Engineering or a related discipline is preferred  

  • IAAI-CFI preferred
