Scope of Work:

The Pharmacy Receiving Technician will support inventory control related activities at Butterworth Hospital in collaboration with the Inventory Control Coordinators, Pharmacy Buyer, and Inventory Control Specialist.

  • Receives inventory from the pharmacy wholesaler (Cardinal) and other vendors as needed
  • Ensures inventory received matches expected order quantity
  • Complies with DCSCA requirements for receiving and shipping medications
  • Manually restocks OR fluid carts
  • Manually pulls fluids for Pyxis replenishment
  • Manages overstock area and rotates stock as appropriate
  • Completes warehouse order as directed
  • Ensures all received products are put away and/or transitioned to assigned staff member in specific area restocking
  • Completes pharmacy returns in collaboration with the Pharmacy Buyer
  • Completes validation in EMR for all products that are received
  • Serves as point of contact for overstock supply in pharmacy storeroom
  • Collaborates with Pharmacy Buyer at Butterworth on incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Adjust work area as needed to ensure inventory is appropriately housed
  • Ensure work environment is organized and clean

Job Summary

Under the direction of a Pharmacist, provides technical assistance, processing and preparing medications and supplies. Works with multiple medication automation systems. Delivers medications and supplies to patient care areas. Triages phone calls and messages from multidisciplinary team members. Able to work in complex pharmacy areas (satellites, sterile product compounding, controlled substance handling, inventory management).

Essential Functions

  • Prepares supplies / medication, including complex sterile formulations under the direction of a Pharmacist. May prepare hazardous or biologic products when properly trained and competencies are passed.
  • Prepares and packages bulk medications into unit of use packaging.
  • Handles controlled substances for pharmacy and patient care areas under direct supervision of a pharmacist per federal and state law.
  • Delivers pharmacy prepared medications, controlled substances and supplies to various nursing stations/patient care areas.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintains all requirements for CPhT certifications. Completes all Spectrum Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Associate's Degree
  • Hospital experience Preferred
  • LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician Temp - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required And
  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATE_MI State of Michigan 90 Days required
  • CRT-Pharmacy Technician, Certified (CPHT) - PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required Or
  • CRT-Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) - NHA National Healthcareer Association Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required
