Job Title:

Job Summary:

Assists specific service line's leadership team in daily operations. Serves as a leader and coordinates an advanced level of comprehensive health care of a specific patient population. Takes a leadership role in overall program development and departmental initiatives, processes, and/or changes. Encourages multidisciplinary collaboration. Demonstrates professionalism and effectively facilitates support of the advanced practice providers. Actively participates in organizational committees to ensure alignment of advanced practice providers in the overall mission and vision of the institution.

Education & Experience

Graduate of an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program with national certification and a minimum of three (3) years experience as an APP is required. Lead or supervisory experience is preferred.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration required:  current APP license or hold a temporary permit to practice as an APRN, must have national certification in area of specialty (practice).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of advanced practice provider procedures and protocols. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Knowledge and understanding of Mississippi Board of Nursing and Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the appropriate service line leader and collaborates with the department chair and medical director in facilitating the development, support and management of the app group within specific service lines. This includes improving quality of care, patient throughput, early patient discharge, patient and staff education, hospital task forces, and patient satisfaction.
  • Monitors competency, documentation and outcomes of care given by APP.
  • Identifies ways to facilitate working relationships among all levels of staff to meet patient care requirements.
  • Provides daily clinical supervision, including work assignments, training and evaluation in accordance with UMMC and specific, respective departmental policies and procedures.
  • Models appropriate judgment in the follow-up of patient care issues, including use of physician, nursing and/or administrative chain of command. Models effective leadership behaviors in the program manager role. Facilitates learning for other staff to become more effective in their role. Provides coaching and team building to increase employee productivity and satisfaction. Serves as a resource to staff for problem solving.
  • Actively participates in and leads discussion of quality results and patient feedback, problem solving and development of plans to improve quality of care and service. Follows up and supports efforts of colleagues to implement improvement action plans.
  • Facilitates change to meet organizational goals within the service line. Develops and implements strategies to reduce costs and increase patient satisfaction.
  • Acts as a liaison with nursing, medical staff and quality management.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and provides the care needed as described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties of the advanced practice provider as required.
  • Serves on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or work area.
  • Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
