Major Gifts Officer, NCH Foundation

Reporting to the Assistant Executive Director, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for helping to expand the pipeline of major gift donors to Northwest Community Hospital, with primary focus on capital campaign priorities. There will be strong emphasis on identifying and qualifying major gift donors. This person will also carry a portfolio of major gift prospects and will be responsible for cultivating and soliciting prospects of $10,000 and above to support the annual financial goals of the Foundation.

  • Hours: Monday-Friday, during normal business hours

  • Required Travel: local travel may be required

What you will do:

  • In partnership with the prospect management team, focuses on reaching out to identified major gift prospects and seeking initial meetings to measure interest in supporting Northwest Community Hospital Foundation.

  • Builds and personally manages a portfolio of approximately 50-75 prospects who have been qualified as having major gift capacity and inclination. This includes developing formal cultivation and solicitation strategies for each prospect, appropriately involving Foundation and hospital staff colleagues and volunteers in donor prospect engagement, meeting regularly with donor prospects, cultivating and soliciting prospects and stewarding relationships of major gift donors to the Foundation.

  • Creates and maintains verbal and written communication with prospects and donors to include general correspondence, timely donor and prospect follow-up, personalized acknowledgements, working in collaboration with Foundation staff colleagues and the Foundation’s communications manager to ensure consistent messaging to the Foundation’s donor community.

  • Assists in planning and facilitating social and educational gatherings to engage donors and prospects.

What you will need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, required

  • Certification: n/a

  • Experience: 3+ years successful experience in cultivating and soliciting gifts from donors, or an equivalent/related field (such as sales)

  • Unique or Preferred Skills:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with donors and volunteers.

    • Ability and willingness to qualify donor prospects through consistent and appropriate outreach.

    • Strong skills in setting appointments with donor prospects, and a positive attitude when experiencing rejection or no response related to outreach.

    • Ability to work with various groups of hospital personnel, volunteers, and donors.

    • Ability to work within a team and to work independently, as needed based on Foundation activities.

    • Ability to maintain confidential information.

    • Ability to multitask within a fast-moving environment.
