Our Core Player Engineering team mission is to design video streaming playback solutions in collaboration with encoding, packaging, and delivery teams to optimize our streaming technology stack for the best experience possible on all devices. We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager who is passionate about leveraging engineering experience and management skills to solve complex problems in a collaborative way.

You listen well, have a high degree of emotional intelligence, and deliver regular and candid feedback to those you interact with.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

Summarize job responsibilities, core deliverables and major duties. What is required for the position to exist?  

Provide input for stakeholders and decision makers in architecture, roadmap, and product.

Communicate architecture, roadmap, and product objectives to engineers and gather feedback for stakeholders.

Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to establish priorities

Provide priority and roadmap guidance to engineers and project managers through regular sprint planning and daily check-ins

Assume the role of stakeholder for the project road map(s) along with product and project managers

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Minimum and Preferred. Inclusive of Licenses/Certs (include functional experience as well as behavioral attributes and/or leadership capabilities)

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 years experience in software engineering.
  • 1 year experience as a manager of software engineers.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills.
  • Strong discipline to delegate work and focus on solving management problems.
  • Demonstrate a desire to become the “go to” individual for projects you own.
  • Comfortable with complex and high profile projects.
  • Demonstrate an ability to drive a project forward through unpredictable obstacles, taking on whatever is needed to solve problems, without overextending personal health and wellbeing of yourself or your team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years experience in software engineering with a significant portion as a programmer and/or technical leader.
  • 5 years experience as a manager of software engineers.
  • Willing and able to understand the nuances of various software runtimes, languages, and device characteristics.
  • Possess an understanding that not all engineering problems are technical in nature, and instead will require deft people management skills to solve.
  • Experience working with remote global teams and a flexible schedule to meet in different time zones outside of normal working hours 1 – 2 days per week.

Required Education  

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or related field), or 8 years experience or training in a related field
