Position Summary

Join the national leaders in Allergy and Immunology at Washington University! We serve patients in the outpatient setting ages 7 and up. Our specialties include: food/drug/skin/seasonal/environmental allergies, asthma, immunodeficiency, and hereditary angioedema. Our clinicians treat patients at five clinic locations throughout the St. Louis region. Our main office is located at 1110 Highlands Plaza Dr. Suite 300, St. Louis, MO 63110 operating Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

The Nurse Supervisor oversees 6 staff members comprised of Clinical Nurse Coordinators. The supervisor serves as a liaison between our providers, staff, and multidisciplinary teams. This position is a working supervisor responsible for managing staffing, supporting the team, managing training, and serving as a liaison between our providers, staff, and multidisciplinary teams. The Nurse Supervisor would be responsible for learning and performing Clinical Nurse Coordinator duties and responsibilities. This includes:

• Provides direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients; completes health history and physical examination on patients; conveys findings to physician.
• Coordinates patient care, orders diagnostic tests, conveys findings to physician, attends inpatient rounds, coordinates patient appointments, and assists with referrals to outside sources.
• Assists physician and provides support with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
• Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties, including compliance with environmental safety regulations, infection control standards and quality assurance.
• Acts as liaison and team leader by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families, and health team members; explains routines and procedures to patients and coordinates patient care information to appropriate sources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises nursing staff, including hire/fire responsibilities, performance appraisals, for subordinates, initiating disciplinary action.
  • Coordinates patient services with physicians and staff to provide quality care in effective manner, conducting rounds to ensure quality of patient care delivery.
  • Facilitates educational opportunities and quality improvement activities for staff to ensure compliance with medical school and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assigns/coordinates activities and duties of staff orienting new staff and advising administration of conditions and performance issues.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed, including development of patient care plans, administering medication, vitals, phlebotomy, monitoring IV therapies and maintaining records in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Promotes/maintains good public relations with patients and families, acting as liaison between other departments.
  • Provides appropriate counsel to patients/families explaining medications, procedures and teaches care to ensure continuity of care and promote health care maintenance.
  • Monitors supplies/equipment ordering/repairing as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or registered nurse.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
  • Organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program plus a minimum of 2 years of related nursing experience.
  • Current LPN or RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range

$71,300.00 - $128,400.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
