South Pointe Hospital’s 7th Floor Med/Surg and Observation Unit focuses on healing and surgery while providing comprehensive care and services to adults with a wide variety of diagnoses, such as chest pain, stomach pain, or generalized weakness. With such variety, no two days are the same, but you will be surrounded every day by a team of long-standing caregivers who welcome you with open arms. As Assistant Nurse Manager, you will support the nurse manager by providing clinical supervision and unit coordination. This position offers a great way to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the best support and treatment possible. 

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.  with weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of ambulatory procedural settings caring for hospitalized patients. 
  • Oversee nursing personnel and patient care providers in procedural settings to ensure quality of care. 
  • Anticipate and resolve patient care issues. 
  • Ensure continuity of patient care by actively participating in and facilitating communication and collaboration among and between department staff and other departments re: operational issues. 
  • Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers. 
  • Provide ongoing clinical evaluation of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers on assigned unit/area. 
  • Counsel employees on performance issues, administers initial corrective actions, collaborates in monitoring attendance issues. 
  • Alert Nurse Manager of significant clinical or other performance issues. 
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting and appraising the performance of employees. 
  • Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines. 
  • Administer Nursing Institute, departmental and CC policies and procedures. 
  • Monitor daily clinical operations of outpatient clinics (patient flow, staffing, supplies, etc.). 
  • Prepare schedule of work assignment assuring adequate coverage on all shifts. 
  • Participate in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives. 
  • Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing  
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross  
  • Two years of clinical experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills  
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organizational skills. 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bedside experience
  • Epic experience
  • Recent in-patient experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
