Position Overview
The Category Manager for Enterprise Software Procurement is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing all enterprise software solutions across the organization. This role supports the full portfolio of software needs—including SaaS, cloud-based platforms, and on‑premise licensed software—without limitation to any specific function or department.
The scope excludes professional services, consulting, implementation services, and non‑software services. The role requires a strategic, detail‑oriented procurement professional who can optimize software spend, manage complex licensing and subscription models, ensure compliance, and mitigate risk while enabling innovation and scalability across the enterprise.
The Category Manager partners closely with IT, Information Security, Legal, Finance, and business stakeholders to align software procurement strategies with organizational objectives, enterprise architecture standards, and technology roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute category strategies for all enterprise software solutions, including SaaS, cloud platforms, and licensed applications.
Lead end‑to‑end software sourcing activities, including requirements gathering, RFP/RFI development, vendor evaluations, and contract negotiations.
Negotiate software agreements with a focus on licensing models, pricing structures, renewal terms, usage and access rights, data ownership, audit rights, and termination provisions.
Partner with IT, Information Security, Legal, Finance, and business stakeholders to ensure software solutions meet functional, technical, security, and compliance requirements.
Assess and mitigate risks related to software licensing compliance, data privacy, cybersecurity, regulatory obligations, and third‑party risk.
Manage software vendor relationships, including performance reviews, issue resolution, roadmap alignment, and continuous improvement of commercial terms.
Monitor software contracts, renewals, usage, and spend to identify consolidation, cost‑savings, and optimization opportunities.
Ensure all software agreements comply with procurement policies, legal standards, data protection requirements, and audit expectations.
Maintain accurate contract and supplier documentation and support internal and external audit readiness.
Drive continuous improvement in software sourcing processes, tools, governance, and lifecycle management.
Minimum Requirement
Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Critical Skills
7–10 years of experience in procurement or strategic sourcing, with a primary focus on enterprise software.
Demonstrated experience negotiating complex software agreements, including SaaS, subscription‑based, and enterprise license models.
Strong understanding of software licensing concepts, data privacy considerations, cybersecurity requirements, and technology‑related risk management.
Proven ability to manage and influence cross‑functional stakeholders at varying levels of the organization.
Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with procurement, contract lifecycle management, and vendor management tools.
