About the Team:

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer with an affinity for solving tough problems to join the Cookin engineering team. Cookin is building the “Shopify for Food Creators” and we want to do it with passionate creators like you.

Cookin’s mission is to empower independent food creators to start and/or run their business effectively with best-in-class tooling. We aim to provide a unified, simple, and delightful platform for running an independent food business. Whether that’s operating out of a home kitchen or a commercial kitchen, our goal is to make running a food business a breeze, so cooks can focus on what they’re best at: making incredible food.

Cookin was recently acquired by CookUnity! Together, we’re creating a culinary ecosystem where chefs at any stage of their journey can build successful businesses outside of traditional paths.

The Role:

You’ll work closely with our small but mighty engineering and product team to move fast and build the best tooling for independent chefs on the market. Come join an all-star team of tech talent, consisting of former Apple and Wealthsimple engineers.

This is a hybrid position based in Toronto. Our office is located in The Annex in Toronto, near the University of Toronto.

Our Tech Stack:

• On the backend: Kotlin, Micronaut, Google Cloud (Cloud Run), Postgres, Temporal.
• On the frontend: React Native, React, NextJS, TypeScript, Tamagui, and Tailwind.
• Other tools: Notion, GitHub Actions, Linear, Slack.

Responsibilities:

• Build performant APIs and services with an eye towards maximizing for end-user experience.
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team to build new features, refine existing systems, and design new complex backend features.
• Build Temporal workflows to orchestrate complex business logic.

Minimum Requirements:

• Have some experience building and shipping complex backend features and systems.
• Passion for shipping world-class products for our users (both consumers and cooks)!
• Have excellent communication skills and are able to thrive on small, collaborative engineering teams.
• Have experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Willing to experiment with, test, and learn new technologies.
• Handle ambiguity and quickly evolving priorities.
• Be self-motivated and eager to learn new things!

Preferred Requirements:

• Excited about uniting people through food!
• Worked at an early-stage (Series A or earlier) startup previously.
