Join Thermo Fisher Scientific as the Director of Sustainability Customer Solutions, where you'll lead an enterprise-wide program focused on delivering customer solutions that help meet their environmental sustainability goals. This opportunity offers a remarkable chance to drive essential initiatives that develop our sustainable future and grow and maintain revenue in key segments. This role will report to the Sr. Director Global Sustainability.
What will you do?
In collaboration with the sustainability leadership team, develop and maintain 5-year strategic planning, developing associated business cases, budgets, and resource plans to drive Thermo Fisher's sustainability agenda
Lead, develop, and support a global team of sustainability practitioners to drive enterprise-wide programs related to climate, nature, and our Greener by Design programs
Partner with businesses to bring subject matter expertise on sustainability-related commercial strategy, and with the Chief Science Office on design for sustainability programming
Serve as the enterprise relationship lead for sustainability with key customers, acting as the primary point of contact within executive governance structures to align sustainability priorities, support contract negotiation, drive engagement, and strengthen long-term partnerships
Develop and lead strategic, innovative sustainability partnerships that create mutual value, advance customer sustainability goals, and position Thermo Fisher as a trusted partner in delivering measurable environmental impact.
Identify opportunities and serve as Thermo Fisher's representative in industry and practitioner consortia, advancing the company's leadership and influence on environmental sustainability topics
Lead environmental data governance, assurance, and reporting for voluntary disclosures and regulatory requirements (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis, CSRD, ISSB, UK SRS, UK Carbon Reduction Plan, and SB 251), aligning reporting with evolving accounting standards and sustainability frameworks
Oversee external environmental sustainability content, including the Greener by Design platform, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with corporate sustainability objectives
Partner across corporate functions to advance sustainability priorities related to climate risk, materiality, and climate transition planning
How will you get here?
Education
BS in Engineering or Sustainability. MBA, engineering management, or equivalent masters degree is strongly preferred
Experience
15+ years of total work experience; at least 5 at a leadership level
Ability to think and pivot between strategic and tactical actions; persistent attention to detail, and ability to lead and flourish through ambiguity
Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient in interacting smoothly with customers, senior leaders, junior team members, and outside professional advisors, tailoring interactions to the audience
Confident in leading meetings with executive leaders, making and influencing decisions, documenting progress, and resolving issues quickly and collaboratively
Experience managing and working with global virtual teams
Collaborative teammate with positive demeanor and creative problem solving
Must be a well-balanced leader who can roll up their sleeves and focus on the detail while also grasping and supporting the big picture
Possess advanced knowledge of key concepts including carbon accounting, target-setting, environmental sustainability reporting and process and controls. Previous experience working with 3rd party assurance highly preferred
Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in North Carolina is $145,500.00–$218,250.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
