CMC are hiring! We have a permanent opportunity for a Senior Operational Risk Analyst to join our Risk Management team, based in our Barangaroo, Sydney office. Please note that we operate onsite working and would require you to come into our Barangaroo office 5 days per week.

Please note that this role is only open to Sydney based candidates with full, permanent working rights (Citizen/Permanent Resident).

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the CMC Markets Global Operational Risk Team, based in Australia and supporting the CMC Markets business operating in APAC, this role is pivotal in effectively embedding a culture of risk management within the business. Key focus is to provide an effective operational risk framework and tools to the business in enhancing the risk management decision process, including the ongoing development and monitoring of risk policies, risk methodology and tools in line with best practice, local and group policies and legal requirements, whilst identifying, tracking, reporting and coordinating the treatment of key risks. Also assisting the of Business Continuity Management (BCM) function, the role also requires supporting the BCM Committee to ensure an effective BCM framework that is consistent with regulatory requirements and industry best practices/standards and is continually developed, maintained and adhered to across the business.

Key responsibilities:

Operational risk

  • Facilitating, reviewing and challenging operational risk assessments across the various departments within the business, assisting key business stakeholders with the identification of key risks and mitigating controls in their business units as well as the development of action plans to address any gaps in the mitigating measures identified;
  • Preparing operational risk reports for the board and various board committees, including reporting of losses and near misses in line with Group risk appetite and operational risk dashboard reporting;
  • Working with all relevant business areas to ensure that they have appropriate and effective key risk indicators in place and reported for all material operational risks that ensure business areas are able to remain within local risk appetite;
  • Analysing identified trends in key risk indicators and recommending controls to prevent re-occurrence of risk events;
  • Providing support and advice in the update of risk data within the Hi-Tec Operational Risk system, which includes Policyhub, Incident Manager and Risk & Control Assessments;
  • Ensuring incidents and breaches are recorded in a centralised incident and breach register and reviewing and assessing whether incidents are effectively analysed and mitigated before closure;
  • Updating local operational risk policies to ensure that they reflect best practice and/or collaborating with Group Operational Risk Teams to ensure local requirements are reflected in Group policies;
  • Assisting with the risk-based monitoring program, conducting periodical monitoring and risk reviews of both CFD and stockbroking operations in determining whether implemented controls remain effective;
  • Assisting with the internal and external audits, whilst ensuring audit recommendations are tracked, reported and implemented in line with audit findings;
  • Conducting operational risk training and induction to staff as well tracking and reporting staff training completion;
  • Maintaining personal/professional development to meet the changing demands of the role, constantly updating knowledge of market developments and changes to regulatory requirements;
  • Representing CMC Markets in a highly professional manner in any internal and external meetings;
  • Supporting the BCM Committee to ensure an effective BCM framework that is consistent with regulatory requirements and industry best practices/standards; and
  • Working with Group Operational Risk teams to development and/or implement new operational risk initiatives.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an operational risk environment within financial services in Australia;
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of operational risk principles;
  • Understanding and support of business governance frameworks and business continuity best practice and protocols;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Relationship management, influencing and leadership skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, especially related to facilitation of operational risk assessments and control-based BCM testing and reporting;
  • Exceptional ability to remain calm under stress; and
  • A relevant degree or qualification.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of CFDs and Stockbroking products and services;
  • Knowledge and understanding of operational risk systems (e.g. OpVar, SAS, Hi-Tech); and
  • Knowledge of local and international BCM Standards.
