The Equipment team solves one of the most challenging puzzles in Maersk. As an Equipment Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring optimal equipment utilisation in line with empty flow plans to ensure we are providing the most reliable and efficient service to our customers at the lowest possible cost, covering the forecasted equipment needs and managing healthy stock levels in the respective locations. You will also implement the global equipment strategy and drive initiatives locally to support global strategy. Develop and implement a strategy to create sustainable unit cost savings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage equipment flow activities across pools, including import returns, export pickups, inventory management, and empty repositioning.

  • Execute inland empty equipment positioning based on plans submitted by Ocean Flow Analysts.

  • Deliver and maintain stock levels at inland locations/ports in line with approved export forecasts and agreed stock factor management.

  • Daily stock monitoring per depot/port to ensure alignment with Port Load Planning, target stock levels, and Commercial forecasts (ROFO).

  • Ensure supply and evacuation planning to and from inland pools/ports is executed accurately and on time.

  • Ensure ROCK is used daily and aligned with actual terminal stock, with planners informed timeously for next actions.

  • Monitor empty loadings, identify top-up opportunities, and provide reasons for deviations to stakeholders.

  • Ensure requested grades are identified and prioritised for loading at supplying locations.

  • Co-manage vendors (depots, terminals, etc.) alongside the EMR Team, ensuring performance aligns with contracted SLAs, including:

    • Equipment utilization

    • Unit cost

    • Dwell time

    • Quality standards

    • Vendor audits and performance scorecards

  • Perform depot performance management and escalate issues via EMR, Procurement, or Management when required.

  • Work closely with EMR to ensure damaged units are repaired, evacuated, and returned to service as quickly as possible.

  • Ensure no repaired units are evacuated incorrectly between deficit and surplus locations.

  • Manage damaged container recovery, including physical retrieval where required.

  • Closely liaise with Commercial counterparts (Sales/Market teams) to:

    • Prevent overbooking

    • Ensure forecast accuracy

    • Avoid booking cancellations due to equipment shortages

  • Coordinate with Landside Execution teams to ensure container movement orders are executed correctly.

  • Identify operational bottlenecks and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Initiate and drive end-to-end cost-saving initiatives, including:

    • Equipment storage reduction

    • Positioning cost optimization

    • Equipment upgrades

  • Practice cost leadership by ensuring equipment movement before free day expiration and minimizing storage costs.

  • Increase available fleet by reducing long-standing containers and inland dwell times.

  • Promote triangulation opportunities to optimize flows cost effectively.

  • Participate in performance and cost reviews, conducting deep-dive analysis to improve efficiency and drive savings.

  • Drive forecasting accuracy across equipment types and promote awareness of empty positioning costs.

  • Ensure daily system accuracy and reconciliation of stock between depots and RKEM/ROCK.

  • Maintain EDI integrations, clear F1 errors, and support tracking processes.

  • Maintain CODS for empty drop-offs, collection steering, and longstanding containers.

  • Ensure all GRC controls are completed monthly across locations in scope.

  • Deliver a high customer experience by ensuring equipment is available in the right condition, at the right place, and at the right time.

  • Enforce customer-focused practices such as:

    • Direct turn-ins

    • Mis-pick accountability

  • Support company transformation and digitization initiatives and ensure successful rollout within the area.

  • Manage additional operational responsibilities including:

    • Off-hire container repositioning

    • Seals management

    • Container sales/donations support

    • Monitoring communication platforms (Teams, WhatsApp, etc.) for operational updates

  • Perform other position-related duties as required, demonstrating agility in a dynamic operational environment.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • At least 3 years’ operational experience in the shipping industry

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to handle conflicts and build trust

  • A team-oriented mindset with a passion for proactive collaboration across functions and geographies

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data for decision-making

  • A self-driven attitude, operating effectively within defined boundaries and guidelines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ROCK, RKEM, COMET, MEPC, GSIS, and Power BI is an advantage

  • Commercial understanding of Maersk products, yields, and flow adjustments is a plus

  • Understanding of operational business processes and basic knowledge of liner operations, capacity, and equipment flow
