2026 Summer Intern - Computational Science and Informatics

Department Summary
Roche Sequencing is developing ground-breaking next-generation sequencing products that allow scientists/clinicians powerful new avenues to investigate DNA, the blueprint of any lifeforms, in days giving them the ability to understand health conditions such as cancer, HIV, COVID19 and more! We are not only changing science but changing lives through the development of frontier technologies that accelerate personalized healthcare.
Do you enjoy experimenting with groundbreaking technology? If so, be prepared to love your job with us! We are looking for an intern to develop and optimize an agentic system to interact with large scale datasets, integrate with third-party APIs and execute complex workflows. You’ll be working closely with software and experimental teams to prototype, test, and evaluate the system.
This internship position is located in Santa Clara, on-site.
The Opportunity
Design, implement and test an agentic system that can process large volumes of unstructured data, and integrate with external APIs and tools.
Develop metrics and tools to monitor and evaluate agent performance.
Collaborate with internal customers to iterate on agentic capabilities.
Deliver high-quality code and actively participate in testing and validation.
Keep accurate and timely records of design decisions, dependencies, findings and progress.
Present work to the team at the end of the internship.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are
Required Education:
You meet one of the following criteria:
- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
- Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
- Must have attained a PhD.
- Must have attained a Master's Degree.
Required Majors:
Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or related scientific discipline.
Required Skills
Solid knowledge of machine learning and deep learning fundamentals.
Highly skilled in Python. Hands-on experience with AI/ML libraries (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI API, Hugging Face, PyTorch).
Excellent problem-solving abilities -- able to articulate a problem statement when processes may be complex and/or ambiguous.
Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
The ability to work independently and proactively with minimal guidance.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
Understanding of agent-based modeling, LLMs, RAG, vector databases, prompt engineering.
Familiarity with using cloud and HPC infrastructure would be helpful.
Experience building applications with LLMs or generative AI models.
Familiarity with API development, backend services, and deployment pipelines
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
