As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will provide a safe, comfortable environment for patients and caregivers. Your duties will include: 

  • Maintaining operating condition of equipment and buildings and completing simple repairs.  

  • Performing inspection, preventive maintenance, service and repair of equipment, building and central energy plant systems.  

  • Utilizing knowledge of fundamental mechanical, electrical, carpentry or plumbing in performing assignments.  

  • Operating common hand or power tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and evaluates facility and central energy plant environment for deficiencies, safety hazards, broken equipment, and aesthetic improvements.
  • Performs repairs, preventive maintenance and improvements according to Federal and State codes and standards, local and State building codes and manufacturer's specifications.
  • Maintains clean, orderly, safe work area. Uses proper warning signs and safety equipment to ensure the safety of others.
  • Monitors and reports abnormal operation of central energy plant equipment. Uses proper hand or power tools to complete tasks.
  • Uses personal protective equipment when necessary. Washes hands with soap and water to control spreading of germs within the hospital.
  • Routinely picks up work orders in Plant Operations department, completes work orders in a timely manner.
  • Prioritizes work orders to ensure the safety and comfort of others.
  • Reports to Supervisor or Director any problems or items requiring follow up or for notifying the following shift.
  • Responds to emergency situations in a timely manner, takes appropriate action in emergency situations. Notifies the Supervisor or Director when emergencies, deficiencies and safety hazards are identified.
  • Assists customers in a professional and courteous manner, cooperates with others.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to perform job duties. Works independently and demonstrates good judgment. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for the successful performance of duties. Demonstrates a willingness to learn new procedures, accepts new responsibilities with enthusiasm.
  • Provides assistance to other members of the department as needed.
  • Assists outside contractors on site for equipment and building repairs. Performs inspections of equipment, building and central energy plant systems.
  • Performs repair of equipment, building and central energy plant systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of equipment, building and central energy plant systems.
  • Estimates time and materials required on work orders. Maintains necessary parts and tools to complete tasks. Notifies Supervisor when parts and supplies are needed.
  • Coordinates shut down activities with Plant Operations Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Minimum: High School or Equivalent.
  • Preferred: Electrical, Plumbing or HVAC Mechanic Certification.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Work Experience:

  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience as a Maintenance Mechanic.
  • Fundamental mechanical ability required.Prior experience in a healthcare setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 75 lbs.) to lift supplies and equipment.
  • This position requires frequent prolonged standing and walking, with occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching. Manual dexterity and mobility are required.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects. Ability to respond to numerous requests and to work collaboratively with other members of the department. Ability to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to exercise self control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from customers.
  • Working conditions may subject employee to many interruptions and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries, occasionally subject employee to irregular hours. Working conditions may subject employee to injury from moving parts of equipment and exposure to hot or noisy equipment.
  • Employee may be subjected to hazards from electrical, mechanical, power equipment and may be exposed to toxic chemicals. This employee may be exposed to infections, contagious diseases.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
