Job Description:
Band 5 – AI Transformation & Intake Consultant
Intelligent Automation & AI
Job Description
Role Summary
Sun Life is expanding its Intelligent Automation and AI transformation capabilities, with a strong focus on AI‑led, agentic, and decision‑driven solutions that augment human work, reduce operational friction, and improve client and employee experiences.
Sun Life is seeking an AI Transformation & Intake Consultant who will play a critical role in identifying, shaping, prioritising, and owning AI and automation opportunities across the enterprise. This role sits at the intersection of business strategy, process transformation, and applied AI.
The role is responsible for acting as the front door for AI demand, partnering with business teams to uncover high‑value use cases, translate complex business problems into AI‑ready product opportunities, and ensure work is prioritised and delivered with clear value outcomes. While traditional automation remains an important lever, the primary focus of this role is on AI‑enabled and agentic solutions, including GenAI, intelligent document processing, decision intelligence, and human‑in‑the‑loop systems.
Main Accountabilities
- Own and lead the intake, discovery, and triage of AI and automation opportunities, with a strong emphasis on AI‑first solutions
- Design and facilitate AI discovery and opportunity‑shaping workshops to help business leaders understand what is possible with GenAI, agentic workflows, and intelligent decisioning
- Conduct deep‑dive process and work analysis to identify decision points, judgement‑heavy work, knowledge gaps, data handoffs, and opportunities for AI augmentation
- Serve as Product Owner for AI initiatives, owning the problem statement, product vision, success metrics, and prioritised backlog
- Translate business problems into AI product epics and user stories, including agent behaviour, orchestration flows, human‑in‑the‑loop controls, and non‑functional requirements (risk, controls, explainability)
- Partner with Architects and technical teams to evaluate and shape solutions leveraging GenAI, LLMs, copilots, AI agents, intelligent document processing, and automation platforms
- Develop and manage a prioritised AI and automation pipeline, balancing experimentation, incremental value delivery, and scalability
- Assess opportunities for agentic orchestration, where AI agents, rules, automation, and humans collaborate across end‑to‑end workflows
- Ensure AI use cases are designed with appropriate governance, controls, risk awareness, and ethical considerations
- Identify opportunities to enhance existing automations with AI capabilities, such as intelligent triage, summarisation, recommendations, or decision support
- Support agile delivery by prioritising backlogs, participating in planning and reviews, and steering teams toward value‑driven outcomes
- Prepare executive‑ready value cases, narratives, and read‑outs explaining AI opportunities, progress, outcomes, and learnings
Desired Skills & Competencies
- Strong product ownership mindset, with the ability to own outcomes rather than just requirements
- Proven ability to identify and shape AI use cases from ambiguous business problems
- Strong understanding of AI‑enabled operating models, including human‑in‑the‑loop, exception‑based automation, and agent coordination
- Working knowledge of GenAI, LLM‑powered solutions, intelligent document processing, decision intelligence, and low‑code orchestration
- Ability to assess AI suitability vs traditional automation, and recommend the right blend of AI, automation, and process redesign
- Excellent consulting and facilitation skills; able to challenge assumptions and guide stakeholders toward practical, scalable solutions
- Experience working in agile, product‑oriented delivery models
- Strong communication skills, especially the ability to explain AI concepts in business‑relevant terms
- Comfortable operating in evolving, fast‑changing technology landscapes
- Curiosity, learning mindset, and willingness to stay current with AI trends and patterns
Education, Experience & Technical Competencies
- Graduate/Post Graduate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in process transformation, digital transformation, automation, or AI initiatives
- Strong preference for experience in financial services and/or insurance
- Exposure to AI‑enabled platforms or solutions such as GenAI tools, IDP, copilots, or decision support systems
- Familiarity with automation and orchestration platforms such as Power Platform, PEGA, or RPA tools (as enablers, not the primary focus)
- Experience working with cross‑functional business, data, and technology teams
- Proficiency with tools such as JIRA, process mapping tools, and presentation software
- Lean, Design Thinking, or Product Management training preferred
- Agile certifications (CSM, PSM) preferred
- Periodic travel may be required
- Some work outside standard hours may be required to support critical initiatives and cross‑region collaboration
