Job Description:

• Analyze and advise on data protection and privacy laws and developments in China.
• Act as the Data Protection Officer for Disney Store China and TWDC China.  
• Develop and manage internal rules and guidelines to comply with relevant privacy laws.
• Advise, draft, and negotiate privacy and data security terms in contract negotiations with internal and external service providers and other third parties.
• Advise on cybersecurity incident response and legal requirements in China.
• Liaise with global information security operations in China in coordination with the Global Privacy team.
• Support consumer-facing and employee-facing privacy issues for Disney Store China and TWDC China.
• Support company response to major consumer privacy initiatives.
• Work directly with business, technology, digital, sales, marketing, operations, and legal colleagues throughout Disney Store China and TWDC China.
• Support implementation of global privacy compliance policies and processes.
• Work closely, collaborate, and coordinate with the Global Privacy team.
• Advise on legal affairs of Disney Store and TWDC China merchandise licensing operations as required.
• Attend to drafting and negotiation of general commercial, intercompany and other contracts and transactions as required.
• Attend to other legal projects and assignments as may be requested by supervisor from time to time.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department, preferably advising on privacy and data security issues, including negotiating and drafting contracts and providing compliance-related guidance.
• Experience with advising on and implementing processes to comply with data protection and privacy laws in China.
• Strong drafting, negotiating and writing skills in both English and Chinese, including attention to detail, as well as the ability to solve problems in an efficient, business-friendly manner in time-pressured situations.
• Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise creative solutions and strategies for resolution.
• Ability to anticipate and understand risks and impacts contractual provisions and agreements may have a client’s business.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese essential.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to professionalism.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers and clients.
• Willingness to take “ownership” of projects and think proactively.
• Ability to handle a high volume of work, prioritize appropriately, and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Superior organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, and prioritize workload efficiently and effectively.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with advising on and implementing processes to comply with data protection and privacy laws in broader APAC region.
• Familiarity with emerging privacy legal issues, such as those involving biometrics, AI/ML and related issues.
• Experience providing privacy and data security guidance in connection with digital, online, and linear advertising, ad tech vendors, and related issues (e.g. audience modeling and online behavioral advertising).
• Knowledge and experience in commercial, retail, IP, regulatory and project-type of transactions in China.

Required Education

• Law degree from an accredited law school in China or recognized jurisdictions.  
• Bar equivalent qualification.
