Job Description Summary:

The C-CLEAR Summer Intern will participate in structured learning activities, assist with basic research operational tasks, and support assigned projects under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Research Operations and the Research Training & Education team within The University of Kansas Cancer Center. This position is designed for students exploring career pathways in clinical research and includes training, job shadowing, and professional development experiences. 

The C-CLEAR program is an 8-week program and will run from June 1-July 24. Applicants must complete the entire 8 weeks of the program.

Job Description:

Job Duties

Training & Coursework  

  • Complete required program modules, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP), human subjects’ protection, clinical research fundamentals, and oncology basics.

  • Submit weekly assignments, self-assessments, and reflections aligned with program objectives. 

Project Support 

  • Assist with basic project tasks under staff supervision, which may include literature reviews, drafting plain-language educational materials, process documentation, and data organization.

  • Support community-engaged research or outreach-related activities as assigned. 

Professional Development

  • Attend scheduled workshops, career panels, and mentoring sessions. 

  • Participate in résumé building, skill assessments, or other development activities. 

Capstone Presentation 

  • Prepare and deliver a final capstone presentation summarizing internship learning outcomes and project contributions.

Required Qualifications 

Education:

  • Currently enrolled students (minimum 60 credit hours) in an accredited undergraduate program. 

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

This internship requires enrollment for a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.

Work Experience:

  • Interest in oncology, clinical research, public health, health equity, or related fields as evidenced by coursework, degree, or application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior exposure to research and patient care through coursework, volunteer and shadow experiences and laboratory.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
