Are you a palliative care nurse that has a passion for palliative care and supporting palliative care patients in their own home with telephone advice?

  • We are seeking an experienced and innovative Nurses to join the state-wide After-Hours Telephone Triage Team based at Caritas Christi, Kew

  • Casual shifts for RN Grade 5

  • Minimum 5 years experience in pailliative care

  • Higher qualification in Palliative Care or Education

About the Role

We are seeking a registered nurse with proven experience and clinical expertise and management in palliative care for the Telephone Triage and After Hours Coordinator.  The primary role of this position is to provide telephone triage and clinical advice to patients and their carers in the Victorian community. 

This role works shifts on the following days/times:  (Monday to Sunday 1500-2200 and PH/Weekends 0700-1530) and night duty (2130-0730 Monday to Sunday). 

The After-Hours Coordinator (AHC) component of this role is responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of the Service in the absence of the Operations Manager in accordance with the objectives and policies of the Service.  Coordination of the palliative care after-hours triage service, management of clinical and emergency situations, resource utilisation and support of clinical projects are key aspects of the role.

It is essential to have highly developed interpersonal, time management and communication skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and with the multidisciplinary team.

Classifications for this position will be ZB5 ( $119,330.64 per annum pro rata + 25% Casual Loading)


Your contribution

  • Degree in general nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • A higher degree qualification in palliative care or education

  • Excellent telephone triage and communication skills

  • Ability to use electronic medical records

  • Have worked clinically in palliative care for at least 5 + years ideally across different health care delivery settings

  • Current National Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

About the After-Hours Telephone Triage Service

Palliative Care is the active total care of people whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. Palliative Care is delivered by coordinated medical, nursing and allied health services that are provided, where possible, in the environment of the person's choice. St Vincent’s Palliative Care Service encompass a new purpose built 16 inpatient bed unit at Caritas Christi at Kew; a hospital based Palliative Care Consultancy Service; the After-Hours Telephone Triage Service; and the Centre for Palliative Care, a leader in research and education. 

Caritas Christi is co-located with St Vincent’s Care, a new 130 bed residential aged care facility.
