As part of the Super Market Division, the Senior Director of Strategic Projects will lead a team responsible for managing short- and long-term initiatives that support the Division's strategy.  Reporting directly to the VP of Super Market Strategy, Projects & Capital Planning and working with leads throughout the Division, you will plan, coordinate, and execute major projects to improve sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Accountabilities:

Project Management

  • Lead key Divisional initiatives and projects through all stages of a typical project life cycle. These projects may occur across the functional range within the Super Market Division including merchandising, pricing, promo, operations, and capital.
  • Drive and influence workstream leads / project managers on program activities to ensure deliverables are achieved on time, within budget and achieve the strategic goals of the program.
  • Work with Project Managers to identify and assess project risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Manage project operational and capital budgets and report on program results.
  • Design and develop program / project presentations to key executive stakeholders throughout the business.

Planning

  • Collaborate with Divisional leaders on the annual planning process across competitive environment research, strategy development, and creation of deliverables.
  • Prepare executive presentation materials for internal and external meetings, including Management Board and Board of Director meetings.
  • Facilitate planning meetings to support Divisional leads as they develop business and financial objectives.
  • Align the Strategic Projects team's plans and initiatives to Loblaw's annual business objectives.

Strategy and Analytics Support

  • Partner with Strategy group to structure and complete research and analytics to allow for effective strategy and tactic development.
  • Identify internal experts required and develop strategies to resolve business issues.
  • Provide analytic support for projects being managed (e.g., pre-versus-post performance across sales, share, margin, OSAT).
  • Maintain and communicate project planning calendar to consolidate team activities.

Leadership

  • Act as a strategic thought partner to the Super Market Leadership team, providing data-based insights and finding opportunities to build value in the Division.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the Strategic Projects team.
  • Work collaboratively with leads and team members from the Strategy and the Capital Planning arms of the team.
  • Build effective working relationships and collaborate across the enterprise.
  • Other duties assigned as required.

Role Requirements

  • University or college degree in Business, or an equivalent degree in a related field of study.
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience leading teams in a project management or strategy setting.
  • Understanding of the Canadian retail industry and of the grocery sector including macroeconomic trends, competitive dynamics, and opportunities / risks.
  • Exceptional leadership, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent relationship builder and collaborator.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to and influence all levels of the organization.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and challenging the status quo for continuous improvement.
