This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will perform the design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of mechanical and structural systems and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) associated with space vehicle test facilities. This includes component and assembly level tooling fixtures, large super structures, pipe racks, and secondary support structures. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop structural design solutions for structural/mechanical ground systems.
  • Design and manage test stand integration tooling through development and production build life cycle.
  • Provide FEA and hand-calcs for steel structures and tooling fixtures.
  • Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle, and oversee equipment fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and activation.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in structural, civil, mechanical, or aerospace engineering (or similar discipline).
  • 3+ years relevant experience in design/analysis/construction of large structural systems (i.e., oil and gas structures, aerospace tooling, movable structures, etc).
  • Experience in structural and mechanical analysis utilizing FEA tools (STAAD and ANSYS preferred).
  • Experience designing and analyzing bolted and welded connections.
  • Experience designing and analyzing concrete foundations and anchors.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating tooling drawings.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years relevant experience in GSE design and analysis for aerospace industry.
  • Experience in STAAD and ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of standard components, installation, and fabrication methods of piping systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid components typical in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc).
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and in-field oversight of construction, testing and/or operations of piping systems.
  • Pipe stress and pipe support design experience (Bentley AutoPIPE preferred).
  • PE license (structural).


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $89,820.00-$125,748.00
