As the Sr. Director of Third Party Data & Risk Management you will be responsible for maximizing the value of our Third Party Data relationships and optimizing investments to drive effective decision making, alignment with contractual obligations (data usage), enabling value creation while also evolving and maturing how we secure and govern this data across the McKesson Enterprise.

Key responsibilities include:

  • End-to-End Data Lifecycle Management: Includes all aspects (business, technical & financial) of managing our Third-Party Data portfolio. Implement and monitor enterprise & contractual requirements, standards and policies associated with to appropriate storage, access, usage, archiving, and disposal of Third-Party Data to ensure full compliance. Renew existing contracts and maintain full inventory and lineage in enterprise data catalog.
  • Data Quality & Risk Management: Implement Enterprise standards, policies, tools, and processes while also ensuring Third Party Data is incorporated as appropriate. Conduct regular audits and monitor adoption across the enterprise to maximize data integrity, consistency, and reliability. Triage, diagnose, mitigate, and resolve DQ issues. Define and use relevant Key Performance Indicators to quantify success.
  • Data Governance Framework: Implement operating model to ensure consistency and compliance by design. This includes defining and continuously optimizing roles and responsibilities across McKesson Business Units and analytics team to ensure maximum use of Third-Party Data for decision-making and driving business value.
  • Manage cost center and organizational allocations within acceptable budget variance which includes generating regular & accurate forecasts. Develop and evolve business cases as needed to secure necessary support to advance the practice.
  • Continuous Improvement & Customer Engagement: Assess and adjust service to drive high levels of engagement and customer satisfaction by staying current with industry trends, business needs, and novel data solutions.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Act as the Subject Matter Expert and trusted advisor for all matters related to Third Party Data. Deliver effective communications to Executive Leadership Team, analytics community, key business partners, and business users while also acting as the primary point of contact for external Third-Party Vendors.
  • Education and Awareness: Promote a strong understanding on the comprehensive nature of our existing Third-Party Data landscape and how it’s used across the enterprise by facilitating a community of practice among all stakeholders.
  • Leverage an innovation mindset to develop and execute a strategic roadmap evolving the Third-Party Data practice to meet known issues and upcoming business needs from brainstorming through implementation.


Minimum Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience)

Critical Skills

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in data management, data analytics, or related fields
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing individuals and teams
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking capabilities to drive enterprise and cross-BU initiatives
  • Previous experience in the healthcare industry or related sectors is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of the legal and compliance aspects of managing data contracts and data rights in a very complex organizational structure
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of developing and delivering results while also accommodating new high value opportunities
  • Financial Acumen to manage cost center and ability to conduct cost benefit analysis for efficiencies and cost optimization and develop ROI models
  • Expertise in data governance, data architecture, data warehousing, and data integration
  • Proficiency in using technical and data platforms including Alation, SQL and BI tools

Additional Skills:

  • At least 5-7 years in a senior leadership role, managing large teams and complex projects
  • Direct experience negotiating with Third Party Data vendors and proficient with Internal Sourcing & Procurement processes
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and data privacy standards like HIPAA
  • A master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline is often preferred

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$153,800 - $256,400
