What does a Mechanical Engineering Intern do for us?
Operating under supervision and with significant oversight, an Engineering Intern works within an assigned group to assist engineering staff while gaining valuable skills and experience. They may interface with internal departments and external organizations, receiving regular guidance from leaders and other engineers.
The Engineering intern will work within an assigned group to assist engineering staff while gaining valuable skills and experience. Any engineering degree is eligible to be considered for the positions listed below, regardless of listed discipline. The assignment is as follows:
Energy Efficiency Custom Projects Development and Analysis:
Idaho Power Company Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Program provides technical assistance and financial incentives to help our industrial and commercial customers make changes to their systems and processes to decrease their electrical energy use and lower their operating costs. The most common energy efficiency projects include compressed air, ammonia refrigeration, pumping systems, fan systems, HVAC, controls, and lighting. The intern will collect and analyze data on a wide variety of industrial systems and conduct reviews of individual custom efficiency projects. The intern will also participate in customer site visits and will interface with a variety of Idaho Power’s field staff. In addition, the intern will interface with other energy efficiency program specialists and engineers to learn about other Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency offerings.

This is an office position with occasional field work, it requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. Walking on even/uneven surfaces and ascents/descents, up to 5 miles daily, and while carrying 14-26 lbs. of equipment. Lifting of up to 36 lbs. and carrying up to 30 lbs., (up to 50 feet), is performed. Hiking/Snowshoeing is performed up to 1 mile. Climbing of ladders/racks and work within elevated lifts (up to 40 feet high) with competency in use of safety equipment is required. Squatting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lying at ground level is performed to work within confined spaces of power plants/dams/generators, for extended intervals up to a full shift. Driving is required to perform work throughout the IPC territory, (3-7 hours) The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. This job may require the performance of additional tasks assigned by company leaders or management. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Occasional overnight travel may be required. Some roles require field visits and outdoor work. Candidates for these roles must be able to hike and walk over uneven terrain possibly in inclement weather.
