Job Summary:
The Endoscopy Technician III has an in-depth knowledge of GI and assists the nurses and physicians in providing care for the endoscopy patient. They have completed competencies for all basic GI procedures as well as are competent in EUS and/or ERCP. They competent in all aspects of scope reprocessing. The Technician also supports the area with duties that include but are not limited to preparation of the procedure room and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care environment including gathering all required instruments and supplies and serving as an endoscopy procedure assistant. The job also includes transportation of patients and equipment, stocking/maintaining supplies, care and maintenance of endoscopes and their accessories contributing to the daily functions of the unit. Exhibits a higher level of Collaboration with all members of the Wellstar health care team. Has a strong understand of infection control in the GI setting. Assists with maintaining supplies and equipment under the direction of a manager/supervisor. If being promoted, must receive a 3 or higher on last performance review.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Care
1. Proficiency of all general endoscope procedures as well as ERCP and/or EUS. Proficiency in all equipment and supplies including cleaning endoscopes and accessories.
2. Fulfills all essential functions of the GI Lab Technician. Functions in all areas of the Endoscopy lab.
3. Prepares for scheduled, emergent, urgent and add on endoscopic procedures by ensuring necessary equipment, instruments and supplies are ready and set up for use. Has the skill to expedite and organize the preparation for unexpected events, giving direction and support to the less experienced team members.
4. Functions independently within scope of position. Anticipates needs of physician and RN during procedures; and anticipates needs of department.
5. Serves as resource person for less experienced staff and is the preferred technician for general GI procedures.
6. Must be proficient to operate all equipment in GI, and provide technical assistance during procedures by trouble shooting equipment as needed, manipulating various pieces of equipment and the endoscope as directed by the physician.
7. Required to take emergency call after normal operating hours and weekends rotation per department needs (specific to facility of employment).
8. Serves as a preceptor to new employees and a resource for other less experienced team members.
9. Demonstrates in depth knowledge of infection control principles and standards. Takes a proactive role in QI monitoring and improvement plans.

Required Minimum Education:
High school diploma or GED Required
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- SGNA GI Tech Specialist
- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Passed SGNA Associates and SGNA advanced course exams Required
Required Minimum Experience:
1-2 years Endoscopy experience Required
Successful completion of on-the-job training with documentation of orientation and all competencies met, including ERCP and/or EUS Required
Supports and attends professional activities Required
Must enroll and attend at least one leadership development class per year Required
Required Minimum Skills:
Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
BCLS required.
Ability to collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care.
Competency in all aspects of GI procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection.
Ability to delegate to other team members as required.

Strong detail orientation is required.
Proficiency in all general GI procedures is required.
Ability to function as a preceptor to other GI techs required.
Computer skills may be required.
